Electrolux 612

Hi guys,

I guess you could officially say the collecting bug has bitten now.

Went into the British Heart Foundation shop today, walked straight over to this, and bought it without second thought.

When I got it the handle release didn't work, but a bit of dismantling and reassembly and that's all sorted.

2 slight problems, but not the end of the world

The hose has a tear in it, which leaked suction badly, a bit of tape has sealed it up, not exactly pretty, but fully functional still.

The filter cover is also broken...another tape job :-D

So now on with the nice things about it

Turn it around and open out the 'wings' and you have an upholstery brush!

Nice brushroll and strong suction, really loving this vacuum, just need a new belt and it will be running great!

I really like it, just wish the vacuum shop would hurry up and open so I can get a new belt, bags and filters and really try it out!

Now just to find a new filter door and hose....

Would be nice to get a new brushroll at some point too, bearings are starting to go in this one.

Nice find...
re the hose tear. I've "fixed" some of those using GE Silicone Glue It comes in a tube sort of like toothpaste and it dries clear and very rubbery. If the GE isn't sold near you there's probably another UK brand name available at a hardware store.

The 612 is one of my favourite 600 series, great find
I had a very good condition 612 when I was a kid, think it got dumped

The hose is fixable!
The one on my 610 had split there, I managed to repair it,
can't remember how,
Somehow managed to get it out of the cuff etc and cut it back and then back together

Love your 600s! I knew two or three people who had the 614 for YEARS.

If I can't find any way of sorting it out without shortening it (not that it would make much difference) I'll have to give that a go!

I notice on the bag door of your 612, the '612' is written next to 'electronic'. On mine it is above. I guess one style was earlier and one was later?

I can't remember exactly how I fixed the hose, but I think I just cut the hose at the split to keep it as long as possible, then pulled the last little bit out of the cuff/ swivel collar thingy.
It was glued in I think, then simply screwed the hose straight back in! Its deffently possible and worth doing.

Hmmm, maybe ealier and later, the other James knows more about it then me, but we compared my 612 and the one he kept,
there where quite a few differences between them.

I need another 612 really, for parts, a few of my 600's need some repairs.

Good luck with the hose if you choose to repair it, keep us updated.

Fab 612 and great news on the repair,

Always one of my favourite colours, id love to own a 612 at some point. Already got the 610 albeit the German version badged Progress. Made in the UK all the same though.

This year bought the Progress from a very good friend of mine and thought that one would do me. Well low and behold weeks after stumbled across a 614 and weeks after a 616 which I couldnt darn well leave. May as well go for the full set haha.

Machines that are a pleasure to use, even the shortness of the hose does not really retract from the pleasure. Light and compact enough to carry on the stairs, the butterfly tool certainly the best dusting tool of any cleaner modern and past. These models IIRC were the last to have this tool supplied.

Not to cause any wars but I was thinking Sebo may have been the first to have the hose integral to the machine and even tools attached? Perhaps a little advertising bloop from Lux?

Really pleased by your new find, but start taking pills for the collecting bug thing!

From one who failed to take the required doses, I can assure you that it will spiral totally out of control. lol.

100% fun though.


As Rob mentions in the space of two months or so, we went from no 600-series machines to three.
