Electrolux 1205

Hoping someone can help me. My 1205 lux door started popping open when I turn the machine on. I changed the bag and moved the dial to every setting and it still pops open. Anyone know how I can fix this?

Hello, this is Nathan, Electrolux-dude. Open the bag door and remove the phillips screws that hold the cover in place. Remove the cover and clean the clear plastic tubes inside. Sand and dirt can get inside the tubes and clog them making the machine pop open. Give that a try--Nathan, Electrolux Dude

I agree that one of the air hoses of the automatic mechanism is plugged and would add that a stripped twist tie wire is useful to remove clogs.

You're in better shape than me. My 1205 emits a burning smell. The armature was already replaced; when I purchased the vacuum a year ago, the motor was totally locked up. It runs now, but I rarely use it because I'm afraid I'm going to ruin it--and I don't like my house smelling like burning/melting plastics.


 


One day I hope to replace it with one that has a bright blue bag door and actually works. Best of luck getting your tubes unclogged! I agree with the others that it's something in the automatic control system--probably a blocked tube. I have heard that just working the control dial will sometimes fix the problem if it isn't a clogged tube.

That burning smell may not be the motor. 1205s had problems with the junction blocks melting down. The junction block is where the cord reel housing contacts the block to supply power to the 1205, it's right along side the bumper strip on the inside opposite the cord opening.

Yikes. I read about that, but I didn't realize it could be the smell. Is there anything I can do about that? Or should I just let it die and hunt down a replacement?


 


The newer machines of that body style don't have that problem, right?

It might be the Automatic Control mechanism dial itself; they wear out over time
