Hi All,

I need to replace the motor brushes in my Electrolux 1205 vacuum. It was purchased new around about 1973 and has bee a very good vacuum. I've had the motor brushes replaced once, maybe twice since I've owned it. I want to replace them again if at all possible. The dealer that used to service the vacuum has since gone out of business ……………….. so, I will do it myself this time.

According to some Web research, there may be more than one size motor brush required? I'm not sure if that is a true statement or not!!!!

Can someone on this site tell me where I can purchase 4 motor brushes that will fit my particular model:

Electrolux 1205 - Serial Number: Z83413F

Thanks so very much!

Tony

But, is there really more that one size brush for this unit? If that is the case, I may not have the correct one picked out. I was hoping someone would know for sure if there were more than one size motor brush used in this particular model.

I wanted to have the brushes ready when I remove the motor, but it seems I may have to remove it first to determine the proper size. Can anyone help?

Thanks!!!!

The link to the 1205 brush should be correct.
I have not replaced mine yet, but I have pics of an original 1205 motor from my spare 1205. Looking closeley at where the brushes go, it looks like they should work.

Is the 1205 motor the same as a SuperJ motor ? I took one of my SuperJ's motor apart last year, there should be a thread about that in the archives, one suggested a good place to get the motor brushes from.

If I remember well, it doesn't even have to be Electrolux brushes, as brushes are brushes, as long as the size is correct.

Here is a snippet from an older post on the Super J.
This came from the Super J announcement:

OK, it appears it will be very difficult to locate exact replacement brushes.

However, I do have what I think is a backup plan. However, to proceed, I need to know what GRADE brush is generally used in an Electrolux vacuum.

Can anyone help!!!

As mentioned, the link to the 1205 brush should work.
The super j would look similar, but slightly larger

Interesting reading….

I went on to read the second page of the article and it really shows how they were dedicated to making a quality product and the expense they went through to upgrade the product. I certainly feel better about the cost of those Electrolux’s at the time. This goes to show how quality changes and improvements really cost time and money!

I only wish the same quality was put into today’s products but often it is not. I truly believe the 1990’s began the era of sacrifice quality for more profitability all while lowering prices for consumers to get them to buy more. Appliance expected life span has gone way down since the 1990s. My Mom has an upright freezer they bought USED in the mid 60s. Never seen a repair and it’s going just as it always has. It clearly is older than the mid 60s.

And older vintage appliances and vacuums made before the plastic age really are wonderful. I have my Grandmother’s Electrolux XXX she purchased new. It really is still a great machine. The motor works fine, the attachments are all metal except for the crevice tool which is an early plastic or Bakelite material and the only thing ever replaced was the hose which wore out after 40 years! There is simply no substitute for quality.

Glad to hear you are fixing up your 1205!

Jon
