eBay selling fees

Not sure if this is the correct forum but...
I recently sold an item (not a vacuum) on eBay and was shocked by the seller fees. The item sold for $ 300 plus $ 50 shipping...eBay's fee was $ 48 ! They actually base their fee on the selling price PLUS shipping !
I'm think of selling a vacuum or two that may get a fairly high bid. With the eBay fees it may not be worth it. I know that posting it for sale here would save fees but you lose the security on both the buyer's and seller's part.
Any ideas ? I have no problem paying a "fair" fee but eBay seems to be way out of line.

I have recently purchased items on Facebook Marketplace listed under "ships to you". The shipping price was very reasonable. I don't know if Marketplace even charges fees (they might or might not) but facebook has a buyer guarantee in place to make sure you get what is listed and it's as described.

I agree the eBay sellers fees are high. I recently sold an Electrolux for $77.00 the seller's fees were $15.75. I was ten dollars off on the shipping which I try and keep low ($37.00). I made about $50 bucks on the whole deal (out of $114.00) and that was one of my successes.

I'm in no way getting rich off of my eBay sales. I sell to par down on the number of vacuums I have. It irritates me that I do the cleanup, listing and packing and eBay gets close to 15 percent of my profit. When I factor in the cost of the bubble wrap, wrapping paper and box I probably only made about $20.00 dollars off of the whole deal.

Since we can't use PayPal anymore as a buffer all of the transaction go directly into my bank account. It was nice to have the eBay profits go directly into PayPal. But not anymore. It was sort of play money for me to spend on my hobby.

eBay has become even more greedy. I've noticed that eBay has also taken away the vintage vacuum category and people are listing vintage vacs under major appliances and collectables.

I agree on everything you said in your above post. The fees are so high that I think it is..............let me see, how about outrageous.

As you mentioned, the new payment system is what I would call clunky at best. With the old Paypal system, you got paid immediately if the buyer was verified and most were. You could transfer the funds to your bank account in about 48 hours or less.

Now the waiting period is 3 to 5 days. When I asked eBay if they delayed the funds transfer to benefit from interest, (keeping in mind they are doing millions of dollars worth of business nearly daily), they totally denied it that stating, "they were not a financial institution".

To which I say bull! It shouldn't take so long to transfer money in 2021. They would not have gone to this system unless someone was benefitting. I am of the opinion they are that someone.

You are both 100% correct.....eBay has to be holding millions of dollars for a few days and FOR NO REASON but to benefit them. Unfortunately, they are the only place to hold an online auction that gets that much traffic. They can pretty much do what they want.
