Hi Guys.....you may have seen this already, but someone in Hamilton Ontario (southwest of Toronto) is selling a never used Concept One in the original box on eBay. Item number is 190311891572.

What for? If he's not interested in buying it, and doesn't have a vested interest with the seller to jack up the bid, what good does it do other then to drive the price up for the person who really wants it? I know there are those who will agree with me, and those who will disagree. But I've lost plenty of vintage vacs that I really wanted to a "sniper" due at least in part to them being advertised here. For those, like me, who live in a part of the country where vintage vacuums aren't particularly plentiful eBay is one of the few resources I have. I say let everyone find the vintage vacs on eBay for themselves. Listing them here IMHO ruins the thrill of the chase and drives the prices artificially high....

Utter nonsense. Habitual trawlers of Ebay vacuum categories invariably find and watch long lists of vacuums long before anyone manages to post a link here. As for skillful sniping, that is simply a method for not tipping off the others patiently watching and driving up the bids in advance unnecessarily.

But anyone who really wants the item would be posting a high appropriate bid based on their experience and research anyway, either in advance - see previous statement - or in the final few minutes/seconds.

Dave is actually right here......although posting links to eBay auctions is a bit irritating since we have to hear people whine every time, anyone who's going to see or bid on the machine is usually already watching it.

If you complain about snipers, LEARN TO USE EBAY!!! It's been this way for years......if you want the item, you wait until the very end, then bid the absolute maximum amount you're willing to pay for the item. If you bid early or bid with days to go, you will not win. It's just that simple.

So......if you want the machine, DO NOT BID until it's got about a minute left. Can't sit around and wait for it? Bid the absolute latest you can afford to wait, then bid as high as you're willing to drop on the machine. Then you've got the best bet on winning you're going to have. If it sells for higher than what you bid on it, it just means that it was worth more to someone else than it was to you.

Gee.....I had no idea that I was doing harm by posting this.

Sorry about that.....I honestly thought I was helping our little vac fan community by giving everyone a "heads up" on something really great. But if my posting this makes it too expensive for potential buyers, I guess I should keep quiet about what I see on eBay. I have never bought anything there, and have never sold anything there.

I wouldn't worry about it, Brian. The same people complain about eBay postings every time. Some people appreciate it, some are indifferent, and others hate it. You can't please everyone 100% of the time!

You're right, somebody is gonna complain, be it me or someone else. I just feel that if it raises eyebrows with ANYONE on this site (and I am not alone in this) it shouldn't be done. You may have a point Dave, but I'm sure I've lost vacuums due to snipers who knew only of that particular vacuum due to it being advertised on this site. What the hell good does it do to watch the auction and bid within the last hour or so, when someone will only "snipe" you within the last three seconds? We're here to have a friendly discussion and exchange information about different vacuum cleaners, vintage and current. When we advertise vacuums being sold on eBay (whether we are the seller or not), the forum is being manipulated for other purposes than it was originally intended. The only one who comes out smelling like a rose is the seller, since they have gotten more money for the item than they would have had it NOT been advertised here. Let everyone discover these treasures on eBay for themselves, and if necessary, post the auction here AFTER it is completed....

If somebody wants to post somthing they saw on Ebay-LET THEM! My gosh, you never know, they might post something someday you didn't see and would like. There is absolutly NO HARM.
If you don't want to read about Ebay finds, DON'T READ THE POSTING!!!

Have it your way, Matt, but how does it feel knowing YOU PAID MORE THAN ANYBODY ELSE IN THE WORLD because that vintage vacuum was advertised on this site. NOBODY is doing anybody any favor by advertising a vacuum cleaner listed on eBay here. They're just jacking the price up consciously or unconsciously. If somebody wants to post something they saw on eBay here - LET THEM! And LET THEM get sour grapes for me or someone else every time!

Now that all the pointless shrieking seems to be out of our system, does anyone have any more info on this vac?

When was it made?

How much did it sell for when new?

Did it differ greatly from the versions sold in the U.S.?

The Concepts are among my favorite Hoovers and have been rumored to have won many-a cleaning contest at conventions in their era-catagory. I have one given to me by Jeff P. a few years back and when I really need to get some deep-down rug-thrashing done, it's the first one I think of!

Well here we are on this subject again!! Brian, please don't feel bad about posting the listing. Ebay is a PUBLIC auction. Many of us do not have the time to put into searching as others do. Therefore I appreciate it when people post these listings here. I still maintain that if you were the seller, (and we've seen that happen here before) you would appreciate it being posted. We are never all going to agree on this so we must just agree to disagree!!!LOL
