Dyson update

I gave my Dyson the test today. I used it clean up the Christmas mess. Not impressed with my Dyson. The main problem I have with my Dyson is that there is NO middle stop position so every time I go from hardwood floor to area rug then to carpet I have to raise the handle to upright position and then tilt the machine back on the back wheels. This is the same gripe I had with the Oreck. It's fine if you have one flooring all over your house.
I like the design of the Dyson tools but in use it is a pain. The suction keeps drawing the hose up and the machine does not come with a floor brush for my hardwood floor. after about 30 minutes I gave up and got my old Kirby out!
I tried my Hoover Anniversary Windtunel too. It like the Dyson seems to have great suction but not much airflow when you use the tools and talk about LOUD. This was a real life test today and I was HAPPY to get my Kriby out of the closet.
The Dyson and Hoover sure are pretty but I will take my old Kirby any day. The Dyson and the Hoover seem to have a lot of suction but the Kirby has more airflow. My Kirby grabbed the dirt and glitter on the floor. I was quite surprised.

Dyson update

I wanted to add that I am not a Kirby,Hoover or Dyson person. I like them all but was surprised at the difference in how my carpeting looked and how much better the tools worked on my Kirby. The Hoover and Dyson seem to have so much suction at the end of the hose but neither were very good when you left the edge of the carpet and there was debris on the hardwood floor.
I also noticed that the Dyson and Hoover were very tiring to use. I think it might be because the center of gravity for the machines is in the handle. The Hoover and Dyson both have a heavy feel when I carry them up the stairs too.
Of course it's been years since I have used it but I don't remember my parents Dail-a-Matic power drive being tiring to use and it was a heavy machine.

When it's running, it isn't, but to transport around while it's off it weighs a ton. Even with newer models (like the Windtunnel) Hoover's power drive is still herky-jerky. That's why the non-power drive DAM's are my all time favorite Hoover upright. I think my two favorites are the peacock blue 1110, and Persian Gold U5015 (which I believe was one of the last). The tool suction is quite ample, and although I know some will point out the flaws in the cleaner, overall I find it an excellent performer.

I have to agree. My all time, all around cleaning machines are the Hoover DAM and Kirby, especially my Heritage II.
changing head to hose on the Kirby is a small price to pay
for the results that you get with the air flow !
