Ok so this little wheel on my Dyson has either broken or bent because it's binding and scuffing my hardwood floors. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated because this is my daily driver and is only 6 months old. Oh! And excuse the tangled brush roll. The amount of hair that gets wrapped around this vacuum is ridiculous. I'm cleaning it out constantly!

Those wheels are chap and easy to replace :) they are available on eBay or ask Manchester acts who can ship from the UK if you want
 
Oh sorry, just realised it is a dc41 or dc40, so you need to replace the entire cleaner head assembly, I know its ridiculous, sorry but this is a common fault
 
Yep, this is a very, very, common fault. I would contact dyson about it, they should direct you to the nearest service center. They will replace the entire cleaner head under warranty.

Dyson should be able to send a new cleaner head under warranty IKR it is, because the thing is replaceable in like ten seconds😀 and if the problem persists with the new one, ask them to send another one and if I were you, I would use the good condition one on hard floors and the broken one on carpets because this creates a good seal onto the floor, a bit like a kirby does
 
Thanks for the info! I'll be contacting Dyson this coming week to figure out a solution. Wish I has gotten the DC65.....The DC40 is terrible at cleaning carpet! Luckily I bought it for the purpose of cleaning my hardwood floors, which is why I need this stupid little wheel to work correctly!
 
Sean, & the rest of the guys here....hold on a minute, something I am not getting here. Why not just remove the small wheel & vacuum without it? It shouldn't cause a huge problem to run the cleaner without the wheel.

And WHY would Dyson replace the entire head under warranty, just because 1 small wheel mounted on a pin won't move & is binding? Why wouldn't they just replace the wheel? Seems really stupid of them, to me, to go ahead & throw out all that good plastic, brushroll, wiring & motor, just because of 1 small bloody wheel!

I'm just looking for a solution here, I paid 399 dollars for this vacuum cleaner and if I cant use it on my hardwood floors it was a total waste of money....If I were to remove the wheel the base plate would just scrape along the floor and do even more damage. I honestly don't care how Dyson chooses to deal with this problem as long as my machine gets fixed. I'm not at all concerned about wasted plastic or whatever, Dyson shouldn't have made the broken part all one piece if they were worried about being wasteful. And I do have a very nice Panasonic Canister with power head and a nice floor brush, I just am not a canister person. Cant stand having to drag it around everywhere....Drives me crazy! I like the dyson, it's easy, does a good job, and is quick. Maybe if I had a high end Canister like Riccar or Miele I'd feel different about it, but I don't have that kind of money to spend on a vacuum cleaner right now. May be an option in the future.
 
A $399 vacuum, 6 months old....and broken, that's Dyson alright!

I thought the active soleplate on these latest generation ball vacuums makes contact with the floor to seal in suction. So if this small roller wheel was removed the soleplate would still be in contact with the floor. Isn't there more than that one small roller wheel on the active soleplate? Correct me if I'm wrong on any if the above info.

That one if the reason I don't own a Dyson anymore for the price you pay for them the quality of parts and build is not the best quality. Though small roller wheels on the active soleplate are not rubber nor are the ridges (if that's the term for them!) on the actual ball all plastic (hard as well) which to me just opens up the door to scratch your hard floors. Same on the digital slim the small V ball at the back of the main head is hard plastic. On earlier models in the UK like the DC03 and the DC04 (earlier version of this model) the main back wheels and the roller wheels on the soleplate where rubberised to protect hard floors. Even the first generation ball the DC15 the ridges on the ball where rubber to protect hard floors. Now they don't use any rubber not sure why, cost cutting!! Shame really I for the price you pay for a Dyson I would expect the wheels or ball to have protection for hard floors.

Hope Dyson sort it for you vacuumfreak95. Shame that small part can not be replaced quick and easy.
 
Tell Dyson you want your money back and use the refund to buy a good Panasonic canister vac with a nice horse hair floor brush like those sold by Miele, Sebo and Electrolux. Panasonic canisters might not be the most deluxe canisters ever sold, but they are solid products that will last an honest twenty years and are if anything underpriced for what you get. Yeah they have the cheap Chinese made Sip Cinderson motor, but I have taken apart some twenty year old hammered looking Kenmores with these motors. The filters were disintegrated, the motor and even the brush holders filled with dirt to the point you couldn't even see the commutator, but after cleaning it out I removed the brushes and measured the free length. Almost no wear after twenty years of abuse and the commutator was clean. That impressed me. After clean up and new filters they still run like new.

Hahahahaha, D.T! There is no belt to replace! The brush motor is IN the brush! It's not that bad of an idea, except for when you jam the brush! 


 


Dyson doesn't even use rubber on their wheels, could've guessed! ANY to cut down on costs!

I've seen time and time again, hair (Just like on your brushroll) becomes wrapped up on the wheel shaft prohibiting proper movement of the wheel. Pry it out with a slotted screwdriver, remove the debris, put a drop of oil on the shaft and you should be good to go. If your wheel was stuck long enough it probably has developed a flat spot and if that's the case just get a new wheel. Part no. DY-914892-01
