Dyson DC07 Brush control

Picked up this bargain at a car boot sale on Sunday.
It is a 2001, British made, not Malaysian DC07 Brush Control.
The man selling it had what appeared to be half of one DC04 and half of another together.
Also he had a silver and black DC07 which was in bad condition.
This came with 2 tools, and new filters.
It needed a good clean, and it works.

Its our new daily driver as the hose on the Electrolux is broken.

Because its an early model did you check to see if the cyclone exhausts were blocked!?

Here's a tip I have found , after a few years of good use the  brush bar bristles tend to loose there rigidity even though they still appear long. Get a new brush bar on the machine , you will be surprised how much better it cleans. 


 


The dc07 is one of my favourite dysons.

What a good example. I can beat that though. Mine is a 2001 yellow and grey, but one of the very first with the round moulded 13 amp plug. There were not many DC07 cleaners which had that type of plug fitted to them. I had a good deal of these cleaners which came for repair due to them switching off. This was due to the cyclones getting blocked, as someone mentioned already. In my time repairing cleaners, I saw three different examples of cyclone assembly. The modifications appeared to be in attempt to stop fluff and dirt getting stuck on top of the individual cyclone cones. My own cleaner has a much newer bright red cyclone assembly as the original did suffer with clogging. But all other parts of my cleaner are as it was made. It's had little use.

I had that model of DC07. It had a tendency to build up fine fluff and dust in the central disposal shaft of the small, high efficiency cyclones.

Also, it had an ear-splitting whistle/whine that irritated me.

Mine occasionally cuts out after 20 seconds! So how do I clean the cyclone - i.e. taking apart?

If the cutting out is due to the thermal cut out coming into play, it could be due to blocked cyclones. You can remove the top of the cyclone unit by undoing the three screws on top, taking the top off, then see what you can find inside, but the parts which you really need to separate, this being the main cyclone section and the lower section are bonded together at the factory and cannot be taken apart. There is a moulding across the top of the individual cones which becomes clogged with dirt and fluff and on later models Dyson removed this moulding firstly on four of the cones and latterly on all eight. I presume this was done to dispense with the issue of clogging. Personally, I used to own a very long, thin drill bit and with care I could drill out the moulding I speak of, via the top of the cyclone head.
