Not sure I will ever abandon my Electroluxes, but after learning quite a bit from VintageHoover about Dysons and after visiting friends with them (and vacuuming their homes and cars--such a welcome friend, I am,) I took the plunge and just ordered the DC25 Blueprint Edition from Dyson online. I can't wait to get it.
I'm an engineer and appreciate all the attention to design and bold innovations. The new digital motor, not in the vacuum I just bought, is amazing.
I lived in England a few years ago, and I used to see old Dysons at the tip and wondered how people could just throw them away. I thought it was a statement of the poor quality of the machines; now I realize it was more a statement of the wealth of that particular area. I kick myself for not dumpster diving, althought it might have made the move back to Dallas quite expensive.

we English are snobs at heart realy, lobbing dysons in skips willie nilly lol. One thing I have found though is that people in Britain typicaly tend to belive that if they have the right gear then they dont have to bother so they buy a dyson and missuse it, its the same principle as fat people wearing tracksuites publicaly or chavs for that same matter. wheras we know what were doing with our vacs!

It is with pleasure to post some pics and my impression of the Dyson DC 25 Blueprint Edition.
Wow! I’ve been an Electrolux fan for some time, and there are good reasons for me to stay an Electrolux fan, but I’m now also a huge Dyson fan.
I ordered the Dyson online, and it wasn’t clear how long shipping (from Chicago) would take. Turns out, only a couple days. I was too excited to be disciplined enough to take pictures as I unpacked it.
I normally don’t look for instructions, but in this case, I didn’t want to break anything when putting it together. All I found was a couple of pictures. Those pictures were enough. Amazingly simple.
I was vacuuming in literally minutes after bringing the box into the house.
It seems to make a low-pitch whistling noise for a half minute or so when I first turn it on. Perhaps it is the seating of all the seals. Suction, however, is perfect from the start.
That suction is impressive. I keep a fairly clean house, and the Dyson found small grit dirt, almost powder, from carpet that I thought was clean. I turn off the brush roll when doing the oriental carpets, and I noticed that airflow doesn’t quite make it. Same for the flat-out head. They need to add some vents, perhaps controllable on the attachment, to maintain airflow.
The flat-out tool is a great idea. I have a very low couch in the TV room, and it reaches under to where crumbs always seem to migrate. I’ll attach a picture.
I really appreciate the blue and white design. It looks sharp. And the markings describing the design details are fun. I managed a small test lab for a few years, and it brings back good memories.
This is truly a collector’s vacuum, but I’m also too practical not to use it as a daily driver.
Someone will need to enlighten me why the bristles do not cover the entire length of the brush roll. I can see how this would help comb the clinging threads and animal hair from the carpet, but I’m looking for brushing the entire carpet; maybe I need to study the design a bit more.
Where it doesn’t make par with the Electrolux/Aerus Guardian, I can be very forgiving because the cost is not even half! I do miss the extra-long cord, cord reel, headlight, and a hose that I don’t have to fight against the suction to use. I also trust the softer Aerus bristles on the oriental rugs. I should revisit the comparison in a year and see which one I gravitate towards on a daily basis. I bet it will be the Dyson!

I LOVE the Blueprints, such beautiful machines...

The white colour is inspired by SLS prototype rigs. SLS - or selective laser sintering - is a technique used extensively by Dyson throughout the development of a new product. In the most basic terms, it's process whereby information from a CAD drawing is utilised to create a 3-dimentional object using lasers to mould nylon or ceramic particles together in thin layers.

Each finished rig costs several thousand pounds to make, but it's a lot more economical than tooling up for injection molding, then having to re-tool each time a design alteration is made.

Numerous SLS rigs will be made of each Dyson product throughout production. They share many of the same qualities as a production example, so they're suitable for certain durability and performance tests, as well as general assessments of the design itself.

Here's a development prototype of the cleaner which would become the DC24 - the UK's best-selling cleaner by value within 5 weeks of it's launch!

On the right is the Dual Cavity FlatOut tool, as seen on the new DC26 City. The little round disk on the nozzle is a spring-loaded valve. It automatically balances airflow/suction depending on the surface you're using it on (obviously, different floor-coverings allow for different amounts of airflow).

Are we talking about the spacing between each bristle-tuft?

The rows of bristles alternate in their tuft-spacing, so that in one complete revolution, the entire length of the brush roll sweeps the carpet. The spacing arangement reduces the load on the brush roll motor, and creates better agitation of the carpet.

Dyson's pick-up test lab is equipped with high speed endoscope cameras which film at 40,000+ frames a second (to put that in perspective, an ordinary movie camera films at a rate of 24 frames per second!). This allows for extremely high-quality, slow-motion playback, a lot like the footage of car crash-tests. Dyson engineers can see exactly how each new brush roll design performs, how much carpet fibre is being dislodged, where each individual dirt-particle travels within the brush-housing, etc.

The brush roll in your Blueprint is the result of months of painstaking analysis and development. It's this level of attention to detail (not many companies would spend £300,000 on a high-speed camera for the development of one component!!), that really sets Dyson apart.

Nice pics Jack! I find this very interesting as to how they manufacture prototype parts. I suppose many manufacturers have different methods of doing so, but I've never heard of this type of method before. Dyson really has an edge on design, and this fact is further reinforced by your dedication and hard work to share all of this information!!!
