Dyson Cinetic doesn't work well.

You're supposed to empty the tank after each use, so that each use is like using a brand new machine.

Unless you use it as an air purifier then bacteria and mold can certainly grow and all that moisture could cause rust to metal parts.

Mark, Rainbow advises to not store the unit with the main unit on top of the water pan, that way you do not cause rust or premature damage to the unit, and you are allowing the water pan to completely dry. It is recommended after each use to rinse out the water pan of all dirt and debris. This process can be tiring for those not use to using a Rainbow, but after a few times it takes only seconds to complete this process.

Yes Derek but when you use it as an air purifier it's on constantly.

Stan I don't hate the Kirby. It has a lot going for it. Very well built, reliable, performance on carpet is second to none.

I just don't think it works well in smaller homes. Its difficult to manoeuvre around furniture etc. You don't need a 15 inch nozzle in a smaller home. My Dyson or Sebo Felix with a 12 inch nozzle and swivel action is much easier to use.

In a larger home I'm sure a Kirby will be fantastic!

True it is on constantly, however with the unit running and the separator churning the water, it will not be as stagnant, it is the stagnant water that harms the Rainbow.

Well....

It's dissapointing to see that the cinetic system doesn't work properly. I've sort of been keeping my eye on the big ball and thinking about purchasing one in the future, but seeing this and knowing that it lets dirt flow freely into the motor....that's not gonna happen.

I felt the same way, there is of course a chance it was the dirt they say not to pick up, or over filled too, but I think I will keep washing my pre filter every 6 months and keeping my motor clean. It's just not that big of a deal to wash up.

How disappointing!

I love the idea of eliminating filters altogether, but that video left me scratching my head. If it took James Dyson 10,000 prototypes to come up with this, then why aren't these "crack" cyclones doing their job?

I hope that Dyson will continue to improve on Cinetic science, as this is ridiculous! I would rather stick with my DC07 Animal if I still had it!

this video looks promising,I think in those videos it looks over full, or has been overloaded or i might be wrong,but if anyone else reports this problem I'll definitely be concerned and disappointed

The fill line is there for a reason, but yes, in all likelihood it is entirely possible that the bin may be overfilled at some point through oversight. These things happen sometimes, and safeguarding against this is something Dyson needs to design into the product.

I bought one

3 weeks ago off eBay. After seeing this video I decided to tear mine apart. Mine was just as filthy as the one in the video. It does do a great job cleaning carpets, but the filtration is kind of disappointing.

FYI about Rainbow and bacteria. The Rainbow Deodorizer/Air Freshener has alcohol and tri-ethylene glycol as active ingredients. One capful in the water, even when used as an air purifier, kills bacteria on contact.


I have the Big Ball Cinetic upright, and we've been using it for a month now. Check every time for any dust escaping the cyclones, and so far, none has. But my eye is on it constantly - I really want it to work properly.

Surely if this was what Dyson experienced after thorough testing they wouldn't have released it to the public?

I'm still not certain if it's dust escaping the cyclones or dust blowing back up the tube when emptying the bin.
