that cleaner pictured is most commonly known as a "Bravo". was it sold as "Ultra"? im not sure. the original Ultra is completely different. i remember when the Ultra first came out.

Kyle

The machine you pictured is basically a Bravo. Eureka had a billion different variations of this vacuum. Bravo Boss, Bravo Ultra, etc. Eureka is BIG on re-using names for their vacuums. Boss, Precision, Ultra, and on and on. Just go into any thrift store. They are everywhere!

I can get my hands on a Ultra, would you be willing to trade a Riccar for it? Its in very good shape and very clean, almost like new....

Let me know.

yes swingette!!

That is the one i want! Thanks! I would have bought it but someone else did!! Anyone got one for sale???

no Reggie i will not trade a Riccar

^^^ Seemed inevitable to me, LOL.

As the first generation of all-plastic Eurekas (that is with the exception of the metal baseplate and beater bar...), it is to my understanding that these Ultra machines were not very well made, which explains why they aren't exactly prevalent today. That was why when I saw the two NIB models on eBay, I passed them up and bought the "traditional" Eurekas instead. To me, I don't see why anyone would want one. It's basically another horrible variation of the Bravo, but with a vertical-shaft motor and Vibra-Groomer II. You could also call it a 1400-series/Bravo hybrid, most likely with the worst characteristics of both.

I have to say, the Eureka Bravo, along with the early Dirt Devils and Regina Housekeepers, will go down in history as possibly the WORST vacuums ever made. We had a 6.5-amp version from 1992-95, and by the third year it was falling apart. I (purposely) overheated the motor, letting it run too long when I was cleaning the sofa. We threw it out, used my $5 Electrolux XXX for a couple of weeks, then my mom bought an Oreck pair (XL9100 upright and white Buster B canister) and gave the XXX (as well as 2 other machines I had at that time, an avocado Kenmore Magicord and a GE swivel-top) to the thrift store. Eeeeek!

Kyle

Any thrift store will have them also pawn shops. they are everywhere here . If you pay more than five dollars you paid too much.

One mans trash is another mans treasure! And thank goodness for that otherwise there wouldn't be much of anything for any of us to collect.

several people have said Ultras can be found at thrift shops. i havent seen many. bravos yes. about the quality... i cant say, since ive never owned one, but the TOL Ultras DID have a heavy-duty Sanitaire type motor and deluxe "Micron-filter" outer bags. the Ultra was VERY similar to the 2000/1400 series. Austin, can you elaborate please? i know the ultras had a balance problem and fell backwards when tools were connected.

fell backwards when tools were connected

I remember the tool kits for the Ultras. Just like the other set but in black. There was also a little wheel that was inserted into the back end, underside of the vacuum to keep it stable. i used to have an TOL Ultra. I think it went away at a yard sale.

hey guys!

I was looking in the recent phone book and i asked my mom the nearest thrift store is over 45 minutes away!! Can you believe that??? yes austin please tell us more!!

thanks

Kyle

Eureka Ultra

Was not much more than a re-worked version of the classic vertical motor Eureka Upright, available in three variations: 4.0 amp, 5.5 amp, and 6.5 amp ESP version. The mechanics between an ultra and a regular upright were the same, and the motors interchangable. The major difference was bag on the front of the handle, and the dirt travelled up the lower handle into the bag, such as on the later Bravo machines.
I had an Ultra ESP from the trash maybe 15 years ago. It was an ok machine and cleaned well. I felt it needed a height adjuster because it hugged the carpets too much, and the paper bag was really tough change because of the outer bag setup.
Overall not a bad machine, way better than the later horizontal motor Bravo.
Good luck in your search Kyle, sooner or later one will turn up.

Well, lets see.....

A Riccar would be at the top of the list, but there might be others I might consider. My boss is going to get rid of it tuesday, so youd have to decide by then what you would part with.
