Do you think there is anything wrong with my Hoover Convertible?

I have mentioned that my Hoover Convertible has been having problems:

1. It is overly loud. Is it supposed to sound like this?
2. The spring detached from the bag and it made a huge mess in my room.
3. There is a hole in the pipe where the tape is.

Please watch the video and let me know if there is anything wrong with it.

After hearing that

I'm so glad I have a central vacuum! Okay ..
1. The bearings in the brush roll are dirty & need to be cleaned/replaced.
2. You need to attach the bag properly by taking it completely off the vacuum, unscrew it, slide it over
the 2 plastic guides that are holding it on the black thingy BUT first ....
3. Get some glue or caulk to plug up the hole before you attach the bag properly.
Take the belt off & run the vacuum, if it sounds quieter, it's the bearings in the brush roll. It also looks like that metal plate that covers the brush roll belongs to a convertible with a metal base too, I had to play it again & stop it to check that out which might also be causing it to be loud. Keep us informed..

I have once taken off the belt and turned it on. It is really really loud without the belt. Like I can't even hear my own voice. This is why I no longer trust vintage machines at Goodwill. They always have problems. That is why I now order them off ebay. Even if I have to pay a very expensive price, it's worth it for vintage machines that actually work. And I did not know that plate belonged to a Metal Convertible. I might just replace the entire vacuum overall if it's going to be like 100+ to restore the entire machine. Although I really do like this Convertible. Then again, I could probably get a close to mint 60s Convertible for a cheaper price than the cost of fixing this machine.

I usually do put the outer bags on right on this machine. However, somehow, the spring detached and made a huge mess once I was cleaning it. Like a huge mountain of sugar was on my carpet. I had to get the Hoover Wards to clean it up, and it cleaned up very well.

Can you show me a picture of the RIGHT metal plate. If this is the wrong one, I might buy the right one if I do decide to completely restore this machine.

I can't find a picture if it but let me ask you this, does it seal completely tight all way round then it's the right one.

If it's always loud then it might be the motor bearing...take the shaft where the belt attaches to pull it up & down and try it the other way but don't turn it...if it's a little loose it's the bearing.

The metal plate is tight on the machine. Like it does not move around one bit. So then, it is the right one. I will make a video of it on without the belt, and you will hear how it sounds.

I'm trying to give you the best advice I can offer & so do the rest on here. I still get vacs from thrift stores but only after I've tried them & I think they can be fixed with minimal expense boy do I sound cheap!! lol

I have once taken the motor apart. The fan is actually in excellent condition. But I will make a video of it on without the belt. And then you tell me if it sounds ok.

Another suggestion would be to buy a Cleveland Wood Products brushroll off of eBay. You can sometimes get them for under $20 w/ shipping. I have three convertibles, two very similar to yours, with CWP brushrolls and they run very smoothly. You will just have to get used to a runaway vacuum cleaner!
