ironing

Not my thing but I have seen that at one time there was a Mary Proctor ironing board to go with 'gold MP iron.I have the official chair for one of the old style ironers.Anyone need?

I iron and I like it.

I iron and enjoy it. My daily drivers are the 70's vintage Sunbeam Shot-of-Steam (yellow), Sunbeam no-shot-of-steam (blue), General Electric (blue and white).
I also have a 1960's era Hoover iron which I like a lot. All bought at estate sales new-in-box.
Recently I had to go to OHIO ... to help a little with some presidential campaigning (rhymes with ROBAMA) .... and had to look good. Of course I took my HOOVER iron with me in honor of Ohio !
(I don't use hotel irons whenever possible).
An iron I dislike: A 1957 Kenmore.
Found that iron new in the box. Works fine. If you merely breathe on it, it falls over.
Great show piece but unacceptable to use.

I remember my aunt had a mangle, I don't know what brand but she used it for everything. I have a Delonghi steam generator with cork handle wrap (I sound like Hyacinth)with a european ironing board. I also had a front loading washing machine & after a year I got rid of it because when it went into spin cycle, it would travel across the floor. I tried attaching it to the floor, the back wall...nothing helped. Now I have a Elba by Fisher & Pakel set. At least now I don't have to search the room to find the machine when it's done...hahaha

Scrubs!

I always iron my scrubs since I love to be seen on the wards looking crisp! LOL However that's all I do, Hubby does the rest and tbh only as its needed. I REALLY want to get into a routine with it as my Mother ironed EVERYTHING before putting away - I want to get back to that.

Trebor - Could you give some tips to a newbie on his knitting machine who can do nothing but make jumpers that are too small or out of proportion?

Sumbeam

My Favorite is a Sunbeam Vista Shot of Steam Iron (Baby Blue) I bought it new in 1976. But now I have a new favorite I just bought off of Ebay. It is a Sunbeam Steam master. I didn't need another Iron since I hardly ever Iron.. But I had to have it because it was Purple. The only thing I don't like about the new Iron is it has a cord winder, kinda makes it a little bit more on the heavier side..

degrees of ironing

I only iron dress shirts and occasionally a shirt with buttons if I'm wearing it somewhere nice. But my mom irons everything. I'm surprised she doesn't iron socks and underwear. Who irons jeans??? The other day she was talking to me about how she had a pile of sweat shirts to iron. Now that's got to be crazy. They wrinkle the moment you put them on. She's gone through like 7 irons in the last 10 years and I still have some old B&D she gave me years ago. I think it's a habit of liking a new iron to iron the loads of things she irons(but doesn't need to)

I iron as needed, usually on a tuesday. I personally own 2 older irons, one of them is a 1948 sunbeam ironmaster model A4 the other is a sunbeam shot of steam iron (blue) couldn't find the model number. I may invest in a rowenta focus  hopefully soon.

I actually enjoy ironing  when clothes don't iron out quite right, that's all don't prefer. I am open any ironing hints.

I don't iron (often), but.....................

My partner irons everything, literally everything. He loves ironing, but never uses steam. His iron is an ancient Morphy Richards thing from the 1960's. When we see them at car boot sales we invaribly buy just to keep a spare. Happily the dryer will stop at exactly the right level of dryness. When hanging outside on the line he is to be seen dancing up and down picking in at just the right moment.

However when he had his Carple Tunnel done I had to take over. Deeply fell out with the iron so bought a steam generator. Now on the rare occasions I iron it takes me half the time to do the ironing. I also use a steam press for flat ware and sheets as it is portable and quick. Would love a Miele rotary iron, but can't afford one.

Well, I'm just a young guy, but my Grandmother taught me to iron, so I iron everything, and I can always hear her screaming at me in the back of my mind if I even think of not ironing. I have been taught well I guess you could say.

Rotary Iron's

Philip; Have a look on e-bay you often see them going cheap Miele's very good but the Phaff steam rotary is even better as the roller is open at both ends. I used mine last night and I can iron 4 sets of bedding in about an hour

OMG I would have that Miele. I first saw one at an Ideal Home Exhibition many years ago and it was love at first sight!! I have a very old iron but it's been so reliable and though I hate the colour, I bought it off EBAY UK years ago and couldn't be anymore feminine if it tried; Breville Diva IR21

Though raised with Sunbeam, Tefal, Rowenta and Hoover irons in my childhood upbringing, I personally found Philips irons to be one of the best even though I'm not keen on their ceramic/non-stick coated plates. The one I bought from EBAY is a Breville and it has surpassed my expectations from this brand. At the time it came to the market with a high power element, stainless steel sole plate and vertical ironing (so handy for curtains!) which is exactly what I required for work shirts and a quick steam/shot in the mornings before work. Its getting on a bit now, but it still performs and its a breeze to clean out once in a while too.
