Do the 9 amp Royals perform better?

Far as I am concerned-little or no difference-the 9A models make more noise.And they spin the roller brush too fast.They sound more like floor sanders than vacuum cleaners.
I wonder why Royal made the switch? Do you think for marketing reasons? So they could compete with other machines using higher amp motors? 12 amps seems to be the buzzword these days.
Is it worth it to pursue a 9 amp model for performance, or would you say it's the same thing but noisier and to stick with a 6 amp, given that everything else is equal?

I think as one said before---"for marketing"reasons.The former Royal dealer here didn't carry the 9A models unless you wanted it.I have a few in my collection-and they really don't work better than the 6 or 7A machines.Just more noise.-and more power draw.Any of the Royal 6-7A machines will outdo ANY clean air vacuum.Same with Kirby and direct air Sanitaires.I beleive the 9A Royals were introduced before TTI took over.

I have a 7 amp Royal 9700 that is wickedly powerful. It could easily double as a floor sander. Don't let go of the handle when it's running.......the brushroll is so aggressive the machine will run away from you!

I bought my 9700 in 1997 at a discount since it was the last of a dealer's old stock. It runs as it should and doesn't sound overly loud, certainly not as much as the higher-amp models. It performed extremely well for me in a commercial/office setting, but seems to me to be more powerful than I require at home. I can't imagine needing anything even more aggressively powerful.

The 9700 was also sold here in Portland, OR by Stark's Vacuum as their model 5700.
I would presume your 9700 to have been made approximately between October 1994 (look for the s/n to start with "J94") and March 1995 (s/n starts with "C95") if you claim it to be leftover dealer stock.

You said in an earlier thread you have a model 2000. Again, prior to that model, from April 1991 to March 1995 there was the model 882, which had a 5 amp motor. It was also green in color, and replaced the model 883 whose overall lineage goes back into the Depression-era Royal vacuums (the 1930s).

speaking of which my kirby 505 from 45' has a 3 amp motor, still lifts up the carpet and does a good job.
i would say, eaisily the 10 amp royals today are the loudest standard size vacuum you can buy. my ears ring after using one for 4 minutes. my g3 is like a whisper compaired to it. and the old metal chassis convertibles are REALLY quiet.
