Hygienisac vs Handisac

I was always under the impression that the 1929 thing was called the Hygienisac and was somehow different from the Type W "Handisac" used on models 60-62. Was it really the same thing and Hoover just brought it back?

As I recall, the Hygienisac was made to go on the machine in lieu of the cloth bag (which must have looked pretty strange) and the later Type w Handisac went inside a zippered cloth bag jacket for a nicer, more traditional appearance.

Style F and Style G Bags

Jimmy was correct - here's proof from a 200-Series manual that originally Eureka sold Style F bags for use with vinyl dust bag covers and Style G bags for use with cloth dust bag covers.

The Style F bags were still being sold in November 1972 (second picture).

Paul

Great timeline of when bags were introduced and by which companies on their products. Can I make a suggestion? Nowhere have I seen yet as to what companies started introducing HEPA Cloth bags, and in what years. I think that would be especially important to keep track of, because those bags practically revolutionized bagged vacuums. And in my opinion, kept bagged vacuums from going obsolete. Just a thought.

This is very valuable- thanks for posting this bag history!

Would be great to include some of the latest innovations in dust bags: bags for the cordless Oreck stick vac (pods), bags for the new Henry cordless stick vac, and even bags for the new Samsung stick vac cleaning station where the charging stand doubles as a dust bin cleaning device.

Vac Bags

In the early 90s we began to see both standard and Hepa or micron, micro filter bags for many models that could improve filtration to the level that AirWay had in 1920 and Electrolux introduced in 1952.
(This was also a time that saw various rating numbers of horsepower or cleaning power written on many models. As well as companies claiming rights to a certain color.)

Re: Reply #23

Kirbylux77,

Thanks - glad you like it. Yeah, I was going to start a thread on the Contemporary Forum regarding HEPA filters & bags but decided to wait for awhile while I focus on the standard disposables along with Eureka history.

Re: Reply #24

Thanks, Brian, I appreciate that. Great idea, please feel free to add any information. My priority now is to complete my research of mid-20th century cleaners that were first equipped with the throw-away dust bags.

Hoover Handisac - 1950

This December 11, 1950, newspaper ad from THE READING EAGLE shows the Handisac was introduced with the new Model 62:

In 1963, Hoover introduced the first ever bypass or clean air upright called the Dial-A-Matic. Then a few years later, Kenmore introduced the Duo-Power to compete against the DAM. Also don't forget the central vacs as well like Filtex for example.
