Disappearing photos - older threads

When I view some older threads, I've noticed in some cases, all of the photos from the thread has disappeared!


 


Has anyone else been noticing this?

Joe,

One reason that issue may occur is because some of those users' pictures were actually linked from another website and that website was closed.

Yeah, I've noticed it too recently. It also happens on some of the older Automaticwasher.org threads too.

Do a Google search on what you are looking for with vacuumland in the search box and you may find the photos you are looking for.

Again Googling wont help me find any pictures that aren't loading. I've looked at nearly 40 old threads looking for missing pictures and I cannot find any threads where all the pictures do not load. I suspect this is a non-issue, but I would like to confirm it, so if you guys find a thread that has missing pictures please post a link so I can confirm this isn't site related.

It'll be paid storage expiring. I'm stuck in the loop of always needing to pay for my Picasa so all the pictures I've linked all over the internet still work!

Small price to pay however!

Could the forum be amended to allow more than one picture per post to stop this happening here? Multiple pictures can go up in seperate posts so the space use will be the same, and allows more longer, indepth posts that will work long into the archives

Thank you Ben, but the threads you pointed out all have missing pictures due to the fact that the pictures were not uploaded to Vacuumland.

You see there are two options for posting pictures, the first is to use the upload box, the other is to have the pictures hosted somewhere else and use an IMG tag to call the picture into the thread. Members are welcome to use either, but if you don't upload them to Vacuumland and your site goes down or you remove those pictures at some point in the future then the thread will stay but the pictures will go missing. This is completely out of my control.

As for multiple pictures in one post, it can be done but it opens up the site to threats that can cause major issues. There is a reason why Facebook only allows one picture per wall posting and its a good one unfortunately.

So again I want to point out that those are not an issue with the site.

Actually there is no longer a "wall" on Facebook but what's now called a "timeline" -- one of Facebook's many "improvements" (NOT). But the upside is that you -can- upload multiple photos at once. All you have to do is select them from a list on your desktop then drag them into the top (empty) box on your timeline. Or you can say "create album" and insert photos there into their own album. That's a bit more work but is more organized.

Just as Frosty the Snowman disappears on the first warm sunny day after a cold winter storm, so too do my old photos vanish after a while.


 


I only have so much room on my server and have to "prune back the overgrowth" every now and then. After photos have been here for a while (usually when a thread drops off into the archives), I do delete older photos.


 


Sorry if that is an inconvenience to anyone, but it's just so much easier to post multiple photos here directly from my server via html code -- otherwise, users have to upload them one at a time and, at that, we have to wait 30 seconds between each upload. Not complaining or criticizing; that's just how this web site works.
