Dirt Devil Broom Vac (the good one!)

the fans were both

plastic. i would have hoped that that would have at least been different. but there is no difference in the broom vac, absolutely none but the color and probably the price. being sold through a vac shop instead of Wal-Mart, im shure it cost a bit more

In the UK we had the Eclipse model too. One was black and one was red. If my memory is correct, there were other black Dirt Devil cleaners sold in the UK too. I seem to remember being told that the black cleaners had a 2 year warranty, unlike the standard 1 year on red models. The cleaners themselves seemed otherwise identical.

The UK Eclipse range was a strange one, as it was one of the few dirty fan vacuum cleaners to have such a high wattage motor and I know a good deal of them had problems with the fans and fan casings shattering. Towards the end of their shelf life they were about the only dirty fan cleaners on sale. Then strangely enough, for the last year or so that we had them, they became a clean fan machine.

New Pro Series...

Seems to consist of the corded version of the Hoover Linx Stick vac, the same Dirt Devil Classic handheld bagless in blue, and the relabeled windtunnel with dirtfinder or as Royal calls it "cleanseeker". I am currently torn between buying the handheld, or the corded stick vac. On eBay both models are sold half msrp N.I.B.

Broom Vac

I have the Same Red Model that Brian has pictured. Bought it new at a big box
store back in the early/mid 90's. Had an a one room apt for one year, with a 5x7 rug. Love that little vacuum. It will clean most short nap rugs very well, steps, and does a great job on hard floors too. Always regret that I did NOT order the attachments from Royal. When I had my older, 2 story house, with a Front porch. I had 2 rugs out there and wicker furniture with cushions. Would take it out there every weekend to clean up.
I have the Can Vac in Red that was in that line up. It org. had the power nozzle.
It died early on. So it went to the trash and again was something I was going to order new from Royal. Never did. It was loud.
If anyone is interested in the Can Vac, stright suction attachments. I'd sell it along with a Red hand Vac and a matching toy vac. I'm in a one bedroom apt. and am selling off the machines I don't use. Just shoot me an email and we can talk.

I won it.

I won the broom Vac on eBay.. Auction number is 251104022740. Has anyone ever noticed that once you finally find something you've been looking for, they start coming out of the woodwork? I'd be willing to bet the next time I go thrifting, I'll find more. :-)

Well today I had a friend over for tea and she is emigrating to the U.S She isn't taking anything with her, household appliance wise and has already passed her Dyson DC16 over to her mother who likes it. Anyway, she gave me a virtually new Dirt Devil (not the same as the U.S sadly) "Handy Cyclonic" mains corded hand vac. Having just used it, it is actually ok despite being Chinese made and typically with the motor under the handle, the main handle gets hot in just a couple of minutes.

However, what I do like about it is that the stretch hose out the back cuts the brush roll as soon as the hose is taken out. It also has a single roller wheel underneath that makes it easy to go along carpets or stairs. What a pity though that it doesn't have an extendable handle - this would make an excellent little "Junior," upright - it has an 8 metre length cord and a built in push out upholstery brush. Shame it doesn't have any other tools but I'm sure I can resolve that with spares.

Wanted!!! Dirt Devil Broom vac parts

Hi everyone I'm new to the site and was wondering if anyone has a broom vac for parts or a on/off switch?

Broom Vac

A couple of things about the broom vacs. The motor in these is basically a powerhead unit adapted for the screw on belt shaft and were made by GS electric and sometimes Lamb. The same motor was used in the DD red/aqua/black/blue hand vacs from the mid 80's to the 2000's. The fan is unique to the Broom vac however with a more aggressive blade for better air flow.

The major weakness on these is the spring tension that keeps the handle upright. On the older models the black plastic tab got weak or sometimes broke causing the handle to not stay up on it's own. In the later years they added a metal internal spring to the assembly which got rid of that problem but introduced another. After time the metal spring tension was so great that it broke the actual motor housing right above it which caused the handle to flop and in many cases the guts of the housing to be exposed.

Royal Pro Series

Picked this little gem up today at a thrift store for $7.99! Whole thing is in the dishwasher sans motor and electrical components now. Bag washed in the washer! I do need to find a new cord for it (end near the plug is taped up.)

Broom Vacs

I've got 2! Love 'em. If anyone sees one anywhere, pick it up, let me know, and ill pay for shipping. @gottahaveahoove: still got the owner's manual? It's been a real while. Anyone got a box for one of these, seen one, or has a picture of one? I distantly remember seeing a dirt devil ad with all the dirt devil boxes and the broom vac in the corner, but that's it. I'd literally buy a box if someone would ship it. I've got some nice tricks for motor replacement parts, and all other replacement parts. Apparently Kenmore O bags should fit them, don't have any Kenmore, so I don't know if i'll ever try that.

had the red model for a long time. got it for christmas gift as a kid. bought the better brushroll with extra bristle rows. got a fan for it a few years ago, but had too argue with my local vac shop trying too sell me a non oem fan.. I knew it wouldn't make as much suction...
