Difference Between Electrolux Nuvo and Turbo Shampoos

I am wondering what the difference is between Nuvo and Turbo shampoos? Are they both still sold by Aerus?

Also, what other chemicals/polishes does Aerus currently sell, and how do they compare with Kirby products or other similar products? Are there generic alternatives that work just as well?

Trying to get the most bang for my buck!

Nuvo is no longer manufactured or sold by Aerus. The following products are available directly from Aerus or your local branch:


Clean Sweep Chips
Turbo Carpet Shampoo (1 Liter)
Turbo Carpet Shampoo (4 Liters)
No-Wax Floor Cleaner (1 Liter)
Tile Floor Polish (1 Liter)
Wax Stripper (1 Liter)
Wood Floor Wax

There are several alternatives on the market, any high foaming, water based, carpet shamppoo will do. Stain-X, Franklin, Certified and others make them in many formulations. They are all a bit different, Franklin has a Banana scent, Stain-X is often very inexpensive, Certified is very much like Turbo in it's ingredients. They also require a bit of experimentation to find the proper dilution but it is time well spent. Most of these brands can be had for half the price of Turbo in gallon quantities and cheaper if you have a great janitorial supply in town or in case purchases. My last purchase was 4 gallons of Certified dry foam shampoo for $65 delivered to my door (it was on sale at the time).

So, was Nuvo shampoo the predecessor to Turbo shampoo, or was it a different formula for a different type of carpet? Just curious.

Nuvo was not really for carpets, it was for painted wood, linoleum, vinyl upholstery and other synthetic fabrics. More of a general purpose cleaner. Some folks even used it as a car wash detergent.

Much appreciated once again. It seems as though you don't recommend one brand over another as far as quality--just value.

I am also guessing that Aerus does not make its own cleaning products but just rebrands them. In that case, one of the other companies you mentioned likely manufactures them.

--was discontinued in the early 80s.The division manager over our branch took every bottle left on shelf as he used and liked it in his home.

aerus products are all proprietary formulations and patented so no other product is exactly the same. Having said that, there are good products out there from a variety of manufacturers, most are very good cleaning products, some have added components such as softeners, brighteners, different fragrances, etc. Some brands offer these components as separate products. I personally have used Kirby, Aerus, Certified and Franklin shampoo in my Floor Pro, all have done the job with some experimentation to find the right dilution of product to water.

When Nuvo came in glass jar I believe the instructions were folded(see creases above)and found under the jar label.

Yes they were, those instructions I posted were from the 1950's and the instructions for spraying with the Electrolux were from the 1930's owners manual.

Nuvo shampoo was designed to be sprayed from the sprayer, Turbo shampoo was designed to be whipped into a suds before being scrubbed into the rug by mechanical action. After Nuvo was sprayed, you manually scrubbed it in with the bare floor tool.
