Did Kirby always seal the fan case on all Generation models. I had a G4 that the repair guy took apart when it was brand new to put lubricant behind the fan to stop a high pitched squeal on winding down after using the attachments and at the time he did not seal the fan case afterwards. I no longer have that machine, but was wondering if sealing the fan case has always been done or started with a certain model of the Gseries?

Thanks,

Thanks Dan

I thought that was going to be the answer. I really didn't notice a loss of suction or dirt accumulating on the outside of my G4, even though he did not reseal it. The only reason I know he didn't is he repaired it in front of me and as my only other model of Kirby I had was the Classic 1CR, I bought brand new in the early 70's and at the time, I didn't know they needed resealing if you took off the faceplate.

Sealing Fan Cases!!

When I worked for the kirby distributor in Sacramento (Roseville) We never broke open the fan cases on the G series Kirbys, we always pulled the motor out of the back of the machine so we never had to reseal the fan cases.. Dan

Fan cases were always sealed. One of many improvements added to the Generations was a clear plastic washer directly behind the fan to prevent possible heat from metal shaft and spacer from slightly melting that area of fan.
Thermokid--Yes!You also know the easiest way to service, repair or clean a Generation.(I am doing a G-5 now for resale.)Removing the fan sometimes means you must remove the PD belt pulley and hold rear of shaft with wrench.I seems easier to-Remove handle, bag, nozzle and cord-Remove top cover and trim-Drop rear wheels and power drive-Disconnect mounting bracket of headlight cover-Remove motor screws-Lift out motor and bracket & headlight as ONE assembly. With care this assembly will remain together during service and cleaning with no wires to unplug or reconnect.

Kindly explain how it would be possible to clean the fan and fan case without taking fan case apart .

The fans get ver dirty and the cases get dirt build up also , when you service the machine for resale are you just not into cleaning the machines thoroughly?

I just can't see how it's possible to clean a Kirby without completely taking it apart ?

Thanks

Dan

It's easy to remove the fan once you seperate the fancase, all you need to do is put a small screwdriver or allen wrench through the hole in the fan pulley shaft, then use a small vise-grips to grab one of the fan blades and then twist the fan pulley shaft clockwise.

kirbyloverdan--I you could see & count the parts at my sink now from a low milage hoover Runabout that was only dusty you might not ask if I am "just not into cleaning"vacs! After the above method used by me AND thermokid the fan IS removed.Cleaning the fan case can be done with various brushes some of which are bent to shape. The Kirbys I would clean are in 2 groups.Customer repairs where the vac is cleaned but goes back to the same customer and house that got it in whatever condition to start with.Kirby to resell that are checked first to sort cleanest from dirtiest. The worst usually being resturant vacs. The cleanest being made cleaner and the dirtiest used for parts.I just cannot see how it is possible to clean a Kirby without lifting motor to remove dust that will enter through switch pedal opening.
