Hi everybody! Y’all remember my ‘73 Dial a Matic 1149 I posted back in October and mentioned that the vacuum doesn’t turn on at all, well that because the original motor was damaged and a very good friend I talk to, Damien aka 2011hoover700 gave me a Dial a Matic motor he had after I gave him white plastic Hoover wands and a Eureka Whirlwind hose as a gift! So when the motor arrived, I started putting the motor together and plug it in and it works, but here’s the bad news, the suction is not strong at all, it’s very weak. The motor sounds and works like normal but it’s suction that is having suction problems. So I need some help from y’all Dial a Matic fans, do y’all have this type of problem before? If you do, please tell me. But one thing I’m grateful that my DAM has a motor that runs.

I forgot to mention the check bag indicator doesn’t get sucked in to the vacuum like it’s supposed to.

Run it without the bag on and see the quantity of air coming out, compare that with the suction.

I'd completely inspect all the airways, possible clog or leak.

If the motor sounds fine then it's going to be doing what it's supposed to do. If it has very high pitched whine that unbearable then there's a good chance the fans are clogged but I doubt this is the issue. I bet you just have a seal problem somewhere. You might try getting some weather strip of some kind (not too thick) and put on the bag compartment for better seal. Or could be losing air around the motor housing?

check the black rubber band gasket around the motor itself. NOT the black end that holds the motor in place. if you put in the wrong place upon reinstall it will have very poor airflow. did this by accident with my u5015 after i rebuilt it. had to take the whole damn machine apart to figure out that was the issue.
