Indeed I wanted sleek fast and large. What I got was stubby, slow and cramped. Helen wanted to streak past me and leave me spinning in her jet stream.

Leaving for Milwaukee............

convention

I'm starting to get exited! Can't wait to see everyone there!

It seems as though we may run into some of y'all at the airport! We get in at about 2:00 on Wednesday and should be at the hotel by three.

John, I look forward to what goodies you are bringing.

This year I am not bringing along any machines though, it was too much trouble last year!

Disappointed that I can't be there. Reading this thread, the reality has set in. I will miss everyone. Michael Turner is prepared to lead the troups!

I just want to personally Thank everyone who helped make this convention a success. With out a doubt it will be an awesome event.

To all you convention virgins...hang on to your hats...you will simply be amazed!

Phillip....it will be your responsibility to keep Mr Asquith in line....I know it will be a big job, but a piece of advice...don't let him drive to see the collections....there are no tollways...so he will get lost!

Someone will also have to help Mr. Louis....he also gets lost....sometimes even in the hotel! Someone may have to point him in the right direction once off of the elevator.

Mark and I have started packing for Russia. We have purchased around $250.00 in supplies for the children at the orphanage. It has been fun looking for items that they can use. We leave bright and early on Sunday morning. Going to drive to Rockford, IL and pick up the shuttle bus to the airport.

The Boston bombing set our Visa process behind, they are to be delivered on the 20th or 21st....cutting it very close.

Have fun everyone! I will be on the lookout for Russian Vacuums...and perhaps even get the chance to run one! Won't take the place of the convention....but it will remind me of this AWESOME group!

Morgan,
Please pray for me that Rick doesn't drive because if there are any toll-ways anywhere between St Louis and Milwaukee I guaran-dang-tee Rick will not only find them ALL he will find them ALL multiple times "LIVNG THE DREAM" haha an inside joke to those who don't know what we are talknig about lol We love to pick on Rick. The convention is POR week aka pick on Rick week.
I wish you were going to be there, i'm going to miss the hell out of you, please stay safe over there and God bless.

Hi. I am interested in some information about the VCCC convention in Milwaukee this weekend. I live about 3 hours north-west of milwaukee so it is not a far drive for me.

My question is I would like to buy and restore an old kirby D50 or 560 or a 561. Are there going to be many vendors/sellers of old kirby vacuums at the convention?

I do not mind the fees to attend, nor the drive to attend but if there are not many kirky sellers/vendors there attending the convention it will not be worth the time, gas, and money for me to attend as I am new to the hobby and really only interested in going to the event to buy a project to restore --- so can you help me out and let me know???

Thanks
Michael

P.S., not trying to affend anyone with this posting, I am just new to the hobby and really only looking to buy a new project which I can restore.

Chicagomike

A couple of things you should know: Only paid members of the VCCC are allowed to attend unless you want to join at the event and that cost would be $35.00. In addition, there is a $75.00 registration fee to attend the event.

This is a VCCC sponsored and supported event for it's paid members. There are no vendors. There are several members that are vac store owners but there are no booths. We have designated areas for raffle vacuums, free vacuum items and a for sale area. This is the 30th year anniversary of the conventions.

At the beginning of this thread, you will see a schedule of events. This schedule is similar to what has been happening for nearly the last 10 years of our conventions.

I don't want to discourage you, but to pay $105.00 just to get in--I'm not sure it would be what you would expect. You might do better here soliciting what vacuums you are looking for and then do private emails with the sellers. Most of what you mentioned appear on ebay from time to time, plus you can find great things at estate sales and thrift stores.

We certainly would encourage you to join the club to pursue your interest in vacuums as a wealth of knowledge is available from the membership. Just ask, it will come at you in many directions.

Hope this answers your questions and concerns.

RE: the number of, "Convention Virgins", attending, I do not have the registrations list in front of me, (I am in transit to the convention), but, there are a fair number of new names. You can only be a virgin once..........savor the moment and make wonderful memories! I'm one of the, "oldies", that look forward to meeting new members. Looking forward to seeing and meeting all our newbies! All our members are always welcoming to those attending for the first time and do not be afraid to ask questions as to what is going on. That is the only way to learn.

Charlie
