Early Constellation ad in US-

-refers to it as the Sphereical Miracle. The first here(blue,1955)did not "float on a cushion of air".Was this the same for Europe?

Early Constellations

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the model 82, 84 & 85 all come out at the same time as the first generation of Constellations? Also, why did Hoover cheapen the float ring mid-production on the 84? I liked the earlier models that were hinged.

Yes, the first constellations here did not float, from memory that did not happen till the introduction of the 822A in 1958.

It was always a curiosity to me that in Finland (courtesy Markus79) constellations did not float until LONG after that time - at least 10 years, maybe longer.

If I am not mistaken it was only the non-floating versions that had the hinged base

was it ever sold in south africa?

can someone maybe tell me if the hoover constellation was ever sold in south africa? In parts catalogues theres still paper bags for sale, but i have never seen or heard of a constellation in south africa.and why is it that south africa dont have really old vacuum cleaners?was it maybe the economical situation at that time?i once saw a baby daisy hand pumped vacuum cleaner at an antique shop and a few old kirbys, altough the older hoovers are more commonly available here, i have a hoover 420 cylinder cleaner and a progress mini model f from germany.but other than that i havent really seen other brands.

The first version of the floating Mo 84 kept the hinged base with an added hole for exhaust. It only had to be unhinged for hose on blower and was changed to an easier to use(and cheaper to build)ring on later 84s.
Did Europe have anything to match the remote swith green US Mo 87 of 1959?

Yes the constellation was sold in SA. I have worked on a few many years ago. The ones I worked on were all blue in colour. Tomorrow I will be able to give you more info. I have the official Hoover service manual for SA detailing dates of manufacture spare parts diagrams the works.
