I was going through my normal thrift store today, when I found yet another orange bagged unit.

But it wasn't normal!

It was a Comvac 1600.

I didn't buy it, but quite a unique machine.

those things ALWAYS seem to be missing the belt caps. i got a comvac 1300 like that at a thrift store. and you WILL regret not buying it. mark my word...

I have enough money, but I just don't really care for these Comvacs.

While I want one, this one is just not the one for me.

However, if I can get it for 50% off, then I'll buy it. However, I'm running out of room to put these. Buying my Royal was a huge mistake, and I feel that this Comvac will turn into that.

I have two of these I was able to buy them new-the one pictured doesn't look too bad-you just hope it was used with the paper bags-if not as one other poster says-the bag could be pretty rude. The missing belt cap is sort of weird.

Don't have any means of scanning or uploading it.The manual was very basic--like only a few pages.I bought 2 from someone on here that advertised them a few years ago.The handle stickers came off from storage-had to reglue them. The belts were stale-had to get replacements from the vac place here. The machines work really well.I use paper bags inside the cloth bag to keep it clean.Don't wnat to use the cloth bag as a dump bag-mentioned in the breif booklet.A paper bag came with the machine-along with a metal belt lifter tool. The front belt cap is removable just like a Royal-same with belt changes. The machine has a plastic fan.No mini or sani emptor.Like this better-seems like the machine is more efficient.

don't WALK,

But RUN back and make room for that rare piece of Kirby history! ComVacs are far and few, at $20 this is a steal!

If I walked into that thrift store and saw that 1600, I wouldn't let it out my arms until it was safe at home with me, the 1600 is a dream machine for me!

For 20 bucks--I would have bought it, too.I am sure the vac places junk box would yeild a belt cap so the machine could be used-and a replacement rollerbrush and belt. You would hope the fan is OK-otherwise replace that,too-and maybe with a metal fan if you could find one.All in all the 1600 is a basic, but very sturdy no frills vacuum.Too bad Kirby didn't offer these to customers as a deal closer or second-upstairs,cabin vac.Vacuums are sort of rare in the swap shops here-its a mystery-if you do find them-its worn out plasti-bagless vacuums.

ultralux88, it's at Unique Thrift store at 8657 Sheridan Blvd, Arvada, CO 80003.

Go get it please! I don't want it, but I don't want someone to pick it up thinking it's a Kirby, then being disappointed when it doesn't work right.

Bring it home, Ultra-Lux!

Yep, that's the store. I go there a lot.

That store has brought me so many items. A NOS iMac G3, Kirby Heritage, PowerMac G4, PowerMac G3, Performa 630CD, many video game consoles, Flip video camera, many Palm devices.

What I wouldn't give to find more old Macs at thrift stores on this end of town! I've found a nice thing there once or twice, I found a NIB Vacuflo RugRat and a nice barely used Kenmore Powermate JR as well.

But I've tortured everyone long enough, the machine was there and I left with it! I've got part one of the reiteration video recorded, the looking it over before tearing it apart part. One thing you didn't show is that this, along with the instruction sheet, in the back pouch still has the original belt lifter tool! I nearly passed out when I pulled that little gem out!

Once I get this one all cleaned up and taken home I'll do a comparison video, I'll show a D80, a Heritage, the SuperVac (American Lincoln), ComVac 1300 and this beast. Should make for an interesting video, showing the similarities and differences and where they got the idea and what parts they based them on.

Take some pictures of it once it's cleaned up! I think I mentioned the belt lifter in an earlier post.

EDIT:

Yep, on the third post

I love these Kirby ComVac's would love to own one at some point. I wonder though why Kirby felt they needed to alter the design of what is basically a Heritage model so much for commercial use, The bog standard machines aren't exactly Cheap/nasty and easy to break. Around where I live I know some Business's, pub's and working men's clubs who have Kirby's to clean their premises, Most are Heritage-Legend two Models although I know one place that has a G6. I know off one particular WMC that has six Kirby's three Heritage's and three Legend two Models and they all have the sani-emtor fitted to them, I happened to be in my local Kirby repair shop (which is now closed) when I got talking to the owner of these six machines and I asked the chap why he had the larger sani-emtor on his L2 Kirby's and he replied "because they are ideal for places like what I run the amount of crap that is picked up in them is unbelievable" so I wonder why Kirby did away with the emtor's on the ComVac versions, Makes me think Commercially used machines would probably be picking up more dirt on a day to day basis than household machines so if Kirby felt they didn't need a emtor on a commercial machine then why have them on the H2 and L2 models and I suppose the Generation series models.

I'll post a new thread with the full restoration video and other videos, I'll be showing off all the weird little things about it. I really need to find some kind of solution to the problem of the gaping hole in the front of it!
