Hi!

I just bought my first Compact vacuum, a C-2, inside this nifty storage ottoman. The ottoman has seen better days, and will likely get reupholstered in heavy-duty restaurant-grade vinyl (the current covering doesn't seem like it would survive my size 13 feet). However, before spending three figures to have it done, I have a few questions:

1. Did these Compacts come with the ottoman from the factory?
2. If so, can you post your ottomans to give me color ideas for a new look? (I'm thinking black on top, burgundy below).

Were Eurekas in the late 50s, early 60s ever sold door to door? The reason I ask is that my aunt owned a Golden Crown rotomatic and she had the storage ottoman to go with it. I have no idea where she bought the vacuum as this was in the mid 60s when I was a kid. She lived in a very small town. Were Eurekas sold in the stores with the ottoman? About 10 years ago I purchased a Rotomatic on Ebay and it also came with the ottoman.

Gary, I don't think Eureka was sold DTD in the late 50's. However, Eureka could have had the option to purchase the hassock direct from the company or through a vac shop if you bought it that way. Lewyt had the option of purchasing a hassock from the company.

For door-to-door machines, the Hassock was used to induce a sale. Companies like Eureka and.Lewyt offered the Hassock at a special low price if you bought the machine from the store. Here are a few examples.
