Well

Im having a heck of a time trying to only use one vacuum lol. The royal that im using had a broken speed selector wich I knew but figured It would do untill I got one, but it cuts out so Im going to have to get one sooon.I have to tap on it to get it going again. The bag is also filling quickly only 7 more days to go though.

Man.......it's been 11 days and I'm about to lose it! I'm just not a one-vacuum kind of guy.....

Anyone else for calling it quits on Saturday? I have too many new and spiffy machines that are BEGGING to be used to make it all the way until next Tuesday!

Full bags...

Yeah, I just finished vacuuming with the Singer and that bag is stuffed! It's not full yet, but it's pretty clogged up! It's puffing up pretty hard.....admittedly I'd normally have changed the bag by now...

Crap!

I had several people through today and had lots of grass, grit, and other nasty stuff tracked in by the front door. While vacuuming, apparently a little stick went through the bag......damn. No more F&G bags in my stash either....so I'm wrapping up. I'll have pix in a bit....including the stupid hole.

So.......Here's what ended my test early

A little twig shot through the bag and left this hole. It's just behind where the filltube comes up and empties into the bag. I've had this same thing happen in the Sanitaire before with a small nail. Makes you wonder why they don't put some sort of plastic or felt behind that exhaust section! I don't have any F&G bags left in my stash, so I figured it was just as good of a time to call it quits anyway. I'm dying to use another vacuum. My ears and my dog can't take the Singer anymore!

Singer Bag Results

So here's the results of the Singer bag. Having used the machine for almost two weeks daily, and for cleaning up after each and every vacuum video I've made. Surprisingly the bag didn't seem to leak any dust. The Vinyl bag was clean and the outside of the bag was completely free of dust! Guess the Arm & Hammer F&G bags actually filter quite well! They just don't stand up well to sticks.....

Fuzz...

The Singer actually got up quite a lot of carpet fuzz. It seems to do a decent job fluffing the nap, and it picked up a lot of fur from Sophie shedding!

Now let's push the fluff aside and get a look at the DIRT it picked up shall we?

The Chaser...

So, like was suggested when this event got kicked off, I chased the Singer with another vacuum.

I got a Dyson DC17 Animal on Tuesday, and I haven't used it on the house yet. I figured this was the PERFECT time to give it the first run in the house!

Well before I post the results of what it picked up, I have to say.......it does an excellent job of bringing up the pile of this carpet! It's very thick cut-pile carpet and none of my other vacuums really seem to bring it up all that well. The section between my room and the front door runs behind my couch and it's constantly matted down. The Sanitaire is the only other vacuum I've got that even tries to bring it up.

Check out what the Dyson did! Who needs a Pile Lifter? I swear.....the pile hasn't stood up and taken footprints like that since it was new! You can see where both I and Sophie walked and left footprints. The picture doesn't do it enough justice...

Dyson Results

Now this is impressive. I was NOT expecting a Dyson of all vacuums to really pick up all that much. I really got the vacuum because I thought it was pretty and I wanted to see what all the hype was about.....

Well it seems to do a good job!

Dust, fluff, grit...

Although the pictures are misleading, the Dyson got in one usage ALMOST as much as the Singer got in 2 weeks! I wouldn't have called a result like that at all. The type of dirt it pulled up is the kind of stuff that I'd have expected the Sanitaire to pull up.....not a Dyson....

Check out this next picture for a sense of scale....I've put the large kitchen shears on the parchment between the fluff ball and the dirt pile. If you want a better sense of scale, check out the pile size compared to the burner in the rear. Then scroll up and check out the Singer's pile compared to the same burner.

To make things interesting...

And to make up for not having used any other machines other than a boring Singer for 2 weeks, I decided to chase the Dyson with the Royal Tank...

As you can see...

It didn't get anywhere NEAR what I thought it would. Especially chasing a Dyson! I really expected more to be in the bag than it picked up. Particularly after the Dyson fluffed the carpet so well. I'm guessing thats where the fluff came from.

Other than fine dust to discolor the bag, it didn't really pick up all that much. This final picture shows it.

This was a fun test! If I ever do it again, I'm using a different machine for a daily-driver though......that Singer got old fast!

I just finished my test but I'll respond to yours before posting my pics.

Firstly, I too am glad to be done with the test early. I got tired of fooling with the cord and hose of a canister and dragging the old ball and chain around. I really missed my ballooning bag and self propelled uprights!

Eric, the Singer seems to have done well. I'm surprised the Dyson got that much up behind it. I know a lot of people talk badly of Dysons but I rather like them in spite of the fact that they are a modern, plastic, and bagless contraption.

The test was a good idea (though I may not touch a canister for 6 months!) and I can't want to see the results of the other participants.

My Miele results

Here's the cut open bag.

I took out the cat hair so you can see the fine dirt and sand still in the bag. It may not look like a lot of dirt, but I have a small one bedroom apartment with very flat carpet. That amount of dirt in two weeks is impressive! I didn't even know I made that much! I took the picture on the kitchen floor because the light is best there... and you need the best light possible when the cell phone is your only digital camera. Of course I have a birthday in September... maybe I can give a subtle hint to boyfriend that digital cameras are great gifts LOL

Dyson results

I decided to follow up with my Dyson because it is easier to compare results with a bagless. I have the DC14 with the silly brushroll and terrible clutch system. I still like it even though it is my least favorite Dyson model. I was surprised at the amount of dirt it got because I had literally JUST finished using the Miele on full power. While the Miele has tremendous suction, the brushroll isn't very aggressive. It has soft bristles that do not really penetrate the carpet well. This shows that agitation really is necessary! Fine grit and dirt on the left side and hair on the right side. I didn't even do the bedroom with the Dyson follow up, that is just from the living an dining area so that says a lot!

and of course just because he was present and curious what I was doing cutting a vacuum bag open on the kitchen floor, the guy who is responsible for most of the dirt, Jasper.

Well, I just finished the test myself. I'm REALLY tired of lugging that big, heavy Concept 2 up and down the stairs. I vacuumed the house 1 last time, then I took the bag outside, cut it open, and THIS is what I found.
