Hello all:

New member here and first post-- can someone recommend a cleaning solution and defoamer for the old Vax 121 (Wash Wizard Plus)? I can't locate the original recommended products; any reasonable subsitutes?

I got in touch with the Vax England office-- they don't ship anything to the U.S.

Thank you,

Lou

Almost any of the carpet shampoo products should work. They generally contain a defoamer or are designed to foam less, so it is unlikely you would need to add that unless your carpets prove to be soapy.

Take a walk down that isle (we all love to hate) at the big box store and pick a pretty label or fancy bottle or pretty smell ...

Oreck has some great products if you find yourself near a store; and given the TTI connection, you might find the products to be similar.

Remember "less is best" when mixing, and you may need to experiment to find the best ratio for your needs.

Good luck in your search ~

You know speaking of Vax, I remember 3 years ago I went into a thrift store called the plaid tag and I definitely remember seeing a rare orange Vax vacuum from the 90’s and it’s the one that is mostly popular and it was $20 and I couldn’t believe my eyes but I didn’t get it so no biggie.

Use Hoover US detergents!!!

Use Hoover's solutions. TTI owns American Hoover and British Vax.

I'm surprised the idiotic Vax customer care department didn't suggest Hoover US as a suitable detergent!

Alternatively use separate solutions provided by Rug Doctor, but be careful to dose correctly. Bissell solutions should work too.

When Vax first came on the scene, the detergent and defoamer was separate.

Then, 1001 made a great to-do with their own 3-in-1 machine detergent, and advert saying "For best results, ignore the Vax instructions". The 1001 detergent had defoamer already added.

1001 made detergent (defoamer already added) for the UK Hoover Aquamaster (the deadly rival to the Vax).

Nowadays, modern 'Vax' detergents have the defoamer already added.

And Hoover detergents will be rebranded Vax detergents - and vice versa.

Shockingly I have had great results with the Carpet Cleaning solution sold at Sam's for commercial use, a gallon is $6.60 and makes 30 gallons, not wow smell, more like Windex, but sure works
