George, for some reason I thought you said you had the earlier red Widetrack, not the green one?

Anyway, this was mine. Panasonic MC-E44 bought in 1992 (on the left) and is still a part of my collection. We also had a Kirby Legend 2 from 93 onwards, but that never got much use as my mother didn't like it.

Had it from new in 1997 or 1998 and lasted till approx 2001 when it broke. Still worked though. It replaced our old Vax 121 which broke. A Hitachi bagless cylinder (very powerful, 1400W) replaced this, it blew up after 2 months, then got a Vax 6140 pets, lasted 2 years then got a new DC04 silver lime which we still have.

That's awesome another thing I'd with it is that I kept it in my room when I was a child

My mum had several. Her first one from what I can remember was a blue (upright) DirtDevil. That was wabout 2000 (ish) to about 2005 ish. I can't remember it's model number..I'll try and find a picture later.

When that one burnt out she got a Electrolux CyclonicLite.About 2005 ish When that one burnt out she got a Vax Cadence that was back in about 2008 - present. It hardly gets used anymore since I took over with my vacs :P

She also had an Electrolux "Super 1000"(model Z1800) I think I might have a thread on here I'm not sure. That was my Grandmas but got passed down to her when my mum moved. That went side by side next to her DirtDevil and her other lux until it burnt out.

I would love to try and get those Lux's in my collection one day.

My parents bought one of these when I was 12 years old in 1965. I played with it (vacuumed) every chance I got. A couple of years ago I won this one one on ebay and have restored it. This is my photo of my restored Kirby Dual Sanitronic 50.

I had a few...

The earliest vacuum I owned was a Eureka Ultra ESP. It was our main vacuum until we got something even better.

From an infomercial, we got the incredible Fantom Fury! From that point, the Eureka was used to clean out the fireplace.

Unfortunately, the Fantom had to go when we moved to our current house in the summer of 2001. At that time, we got a Dirt Devil Swivel Glide Vision. That vacuum also came with a bonus "Swift Stick."

I would love to try and find another Fantom Fury one day.

Below are some pics. I got the first picture off of a post from a member on here. I hope they don't mind; I am just trying to show which vacuum I used to own. The rest of the pictures were found on Google.

First Vacuum

The first vacuum I remember was actually purchased the year I was born! I am 35 this year and still have it! It runs awesome still! My mom's Electrolux Olympia One with the Lake Placid Winter Olympics logo on it! She used it right up until I have her a NIB UltraLux 2000 a few years ago. You simply cannot kill that old thing, but I'm very glad to have it for sentimental reasons, even though I still have both my mom and dad! Note, the vacuum in the photo is mine, but not my mom's, the pic is strictly for reference!

Ours was a Hoover Model 28. I think it was purchased right after World War II. Lovely brown beast.

We always had Hoovers

Except for one Kirby Tradition that I still have. We had 2 Dial-A-Matics at one point, a blue Ranger Convertible, a blue Convertible (normal hood w/ headlight), an orange commercial Decade, a Red Concept One, several Quik-Brooms, We also had some kind of Hoover canister from the 80a for above-the-floor. Both sets of my grandparents always had Hoover's too and I still prefer Hoover to most others (vintage Hoover's of coarse). Although I did just by a brand new TaskVac, even though it's a totally different brand now.

i had one of those electrolux wide tracks as a kid a green one i think it was a smartvac ive got a black one now the wide track 1000

My moms vacuum was a Hoover Celebrity IV power matic whit the blue power nozzle . My grand ma had a compact c8 and i finally have my own compact c9 now on the hunt for the hoover tho .

I have a faint memory of my parents having a Bissell CleanView at one time, but I remember these two the most. Around 2006 or so, we bought a Bissell Lift-Off to replace a dead Shark, and it was a decent vacuum right up until my curious younger self cut the cord while it was plugged in! The replacement was a Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum, and it was an unwieldy beast! I also had a Bissell 3-Way stick vac and a Bissell PowerForce wide track, which I still have.

My folks had to switch to used vacs because I'd burn the

My parents quickly switched to buying secondhand after I burnt up their Panasonic they've owned since new and before I was born. They bought a Hoover Elite, which quickly met its demise to a shattered fan, then was replaced by a Hoover Decade 80, a vintageish vacuum even back in the late '90s-early '00s. Its demise was a burnt up motor due to a sock being jammed up into the fan. It didn't occur to my six-year-old self to shut it off immediately, probably because I was startled at the smell of burning rubber, carbon, and the violent vibrations it made. That was replaced with a Bissell PowerForce bagged, which was surprisingly durable. Once I was a preeteen they felt it was safe to buy a new, nicer vac again and went and bought a Kenmore Progressive canister, a vacuum that they still own. The Bissell was sold in pretty goid condition for $10, I think, at a garage sale we held.

Besides the Decade 80, which I was sad to lose, the only vacuums I was really interested in were the Sanitaires at my grade school or in most of the hotels we stayed at on our summer road trips. I liked Kirbys too, but I wasn't around them all that much and Grandma would not let me touch her Dual Sanitronic 80 (or her newer Hoover Elite upright).

The grade school custodian let me try out the Sanitaire and I was very intrigued. I could hear and feel the suction. I love how the red bag inflated. I also liked the quiet whine the 7A motors made, which is very distinct. It was music to my ears to hear the Vibragroomer in action too. I still smile a little when I'm out and about and here one being used. Even though the new 7 amp motor sounds different, I still like them (I bought an SC886 a year after buying my house), though I would love, love, love to find a genuine NOS Eureka/Sanitaire 7-amp motor to swap into my SC886, or finding a nice older Sanitaire at a thrift store.

The earliest vacuum I remember at my house was a Lewyt round canister (Filter Queen knockoff) with a charcoal gray lower body with casters, a bubble gum pink motor head and matching pink tools. I think it finally went to charity in the late '90s when my parents moved. The vacuum was fine but the hose was shot. I sometimes think I'd like to find another one like it. That one was replaced by a tan and green "Brady Bunch" Hoover Convertible that I eventually ended up with in the late '80s and donated to charity when I moved in the late '90s.

The machine from my formative years that I still have is an Electrolux 1205 that my dad grabbed off of a neighbor's trash pile when I was in high school. It had a broken handle and a leaky hose. I had thought it had gone the way of the Lewyt when Mom and Dad moved in '97 but I was surprised to find it in their attic when they were downsizing to a retirement apartment about three years ago. I cleaned it up, replaced the broken handle, fitted it with a good, vinyl hose and a power nozzle, which it had never had before, and it now works better than ever. Over the years, I've developed quite an affinity for metal Electrolux canisters.

My childhood vacs

Before I was born my parents had a cheap eureka the boss quick broom. But for a few months they had my great grandmother's Kirby dual sanitronic. The did not like it lol. So they bought a refurbished Panasonic bagged upright. Not sure of the specific model, but it was maroon with a black plastic handle and a dirt sensor. Next they owned a green dirtdevil vision swivel glide, a dirtdevil platinum Force upright. Next they invested in a hoover fusion and a hoover mach 6. We threw out the machine 6 because I started accumulating vacs.

Dyson DC07 Standard

My Mums good old Dyson DC07 Standard was my childhood vacuum. Ive still got that DC07 Standard.

Selection of my childhood vacuums

I have a series of photos of the vacuums I remember my father owning in order of collection. Firstly a Panasonic (possibly) MCe468 which was white and had a grey cable, then after I developed a slight obsession with a grey and silver Hoover Dust Manager someone had, we got ourselves a grey and red one, which will have been before they started using their soft start motors and had the more screamy motors, as well as the distinctive sounding 3 row brushroll. After that we got a very disgusting Vax Power 3/4 (I can't remember which it was) which didn't come with a dusting brush so we used the dusting brush left from the Dust Manager which by now I had a fear of due to its horrible now broken motor. The motor on the Vax was very unpleasant to the ear, it smelt bad, the dirt in the cyclonic bin was so gross to see, spinning round and round in clumps of fluff and other things. We were lucky to get rid of it, its cable was pulled off to the point the motor would turn on and off during use. We got a panasonic mc-ug302/4 which I was expecting to sound the exact same as the one we had before, but it didn't. It still sounded far more pleasant than the Vax.

I actually miss all of these vacuums, and it's sad to see there are almost no YouTube videos on any of these in full operation. But I do know a few. There's one of a Dust Manager coloured Black and Blue by Servis Gem, the motor on that is the same as the one we had, but the brushroll, when in contact with the carpet, runs at a slower speed than I remember it running at when we used ours (probably because he used the lowest height setting). There's a before refurb of the mce468 Panasonic by Numaticrule29, and it sounds exactly how I remember it, especially when turned off with a whine at the end. HooverLux has a Simply Vacuuming video of his mc-ug302 and it's quite good :)
