Change in daily driver, maybe?

Well guys, I know we all must switch them out constantly? I do with the spares parked inside, the less often used park in the garage on the plush carpet. Dyson dc18 has been daily driver for years, so easy to work with, I just have trouble bending, or lifting often.Not a deep cleaner, but a weekly with one that does covers it. This last week, even Dyson was too difficult to work with, out came Concept 1, just guiding it of course. I know the brush roll does not shut off, but the volume of air it moves sucks in the hair and litter from a great distance, I think this has to go back to daily and a good canister, either the Silverado, HEAVY, or the Miele, frustrates me. The LyNX is daily often of course, just not good enough with this heavy old carpet and a messy cat.

I understand if lifting is difficult then the Siverado poses a problem, but what do you find frustrating about your Miele?  Is it too heavy as well?

I think I did not spend enough maybe? Short cord, short hose, makes me step backwards on the handle of the canister, another fall I do not need. Dusting brush awful, powerhead does not dig deep, again, its the cheaper/small one, grip on hose is not my favorite style.Unit is quite light, this is nice.

Even on bad days my old Blue Magic gets put into rotation. Would think with that kind of pain I would not be thinking about vacuuming. Not true! Especially if I am lying on the floor all day.

It's pretty hard to miss the need to vacuum when your face is right down on the carpet!   I've seen the little compact Mieles like yours.  I agree the short hose and short cord can be a real bother.  I'm used to the mid-size models which are a little heavier but the hose is comfortably long enough.  I wonder if there is a way to outfit yours with a longer hose.  I think Miele still offers a better dusting brush too.  Those dinky little ones are useless, unless you're dusting a doll house!  You should be able to substitute one of their better powernozzles too.   On the other hand, if you're happy using your Concept for carpet cleaning, then you only need a cannister for around the edges and above floor, plus bare floor areas.  OR.......maybe it's time to go shopping and find a different vacuum that meets all your needs.  Keep us posted!

Have been shopping for that perfect unit for so many years, always turns out to be something that really is frustrating or not working for me. Miele, its the Titan, so good size, at least it does get the hair/litter near the edge of the rug, zoom, gone. Dyson, no, not enough air flow perhaps. I have hard wood floors, vintage and several room/ area rugs, so its the edges that are a bugger and the change in surface. Pretty sure at this point it just takes both an upright and canister. Silverado would be my choice of favorite to use, but can really mess up the back.Thanks for your input, appreciate it. d.

I'd recommend a used Oreck Dutch Tech. The green model. If you could find one cheap. I have one and I strongly recommend them. The canister isn't too heavy, and it uses the Wessel Work power nozzle which is a one of the best power nozzles I have ever used. It has very good filtration as well. You can only get bags for it on Oreck's website, or an Oreck dealer, although the bags are fantastic! The hose and cord are the perfect length. And the attachments are a very nice quality. If you are in the market for a new vacuum to use, then I think that would be a good choice.

Well lets see, are you looking for straight-suction canisters or one with a power nozzle?

PN: Panasonic 360. Like a member on here says, "It will suck the paint right off the walls!" And if you've ever used ANY Panasonic, you'd know that their brushrolls will take off a finger if you stick itunder the nozzle!

Straight suction: Any good Compact/Interstate/TriStar. My C6 will stick to the wall if you would take the hose off!

And as for an upright, KIRBY!

I think my trouble is trying to make one machine work for all purposes? Canisters, though my favorite to use, trip and get around issues in this space, too much stuff from in apt for 30 years? Sentimental. Always trouble around the edges of the oriental carpets, that is where the damn litter lies, takes good suction to get that. Light weight is rather needed, even straight suction, can't always push the nozzle on the rugs, puts the hip out! I am pretty sure, nothing will work right all the time. Had the big Kenmore Progressive, $500, not enough air flow and too wide and heavy.Thanks for the input guys, but I think I give up honestly.

I see what you mean about canisters- too clunky and a little harder to use. I personally prefer uprights but canisters are really growing on me. At the same time their harder to use, theyre almost easier.

Nope, I got it! Pain meds, it all makes sense! All this for 650 sq ft.

I had thought the new T type Pet would work, nope. Sticks to the short nap carpets, too hard to push and does not get the litter along the edges on lower level.Also, when you push the handle down to lift for edges, no lift.Light enough, good agitation, good suction, not air flow.Again, Concept, inch away, that litter is gone.

Well guys, it might be the meds talking, sentimental me! Have decided to leave the HEAVY Silverado hooked together and parked in hall closet, no picking it up! It is just the only one that feels right???I hope that makes sense. One of a couple that makes me happy after I have used it, will just have to be careful not to trip or pick it up, god knows it will probably outlive all of us.Thanks again for all of your inputs. David, it's good to hear you've sorted things out at least for the time being.  Sometimes little frustrations can build up and clog our thinking, and drain our energy....just like a clogged hose!  If you can deal with dragging the Electrolux around and scooting it back in the closet so you don't have a tripping hazzard, it's not a bad choice.  The attachments are easy to use and that Silverado will make quick work of the dust and fur, and those bits around the edges.  I understand what you say about feeling happy after using it.  I think for some of us at least,  certain vacuums seem to fit our "style" or even our personality!

That and the memories! I LIVE in the past all the time. My neighbor had a gold Lux, circa 71 that I loved.I bought this unit in 94 after looking for a very long time.It just feels like this is what is right to use. My interesting Dyson dusting tools fit it also, and work better! Even the turbo pet brush from the new Hoover works better on it. Bags a piece of cake of course, I set it on 1 and change often.I think I do feel less frustrated, like you say, and boy the heavy old carpet sure looks new again, only the Concept can do that too.Thanks for all of your input on this, appreciated! d.
