CDN Electrolux 88 Help!

Hi Everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction on this. I bought this really nice Electrolux 88 recently and it has a few issues. It came with the complete set of accessories and instruction manual and from what I've read, these are really great machines so I'm hoping I can get it all fixed up

The first one is the hose - it leaks like a sieve! It has a few fractures in it so it doesn't appear it can be repaired with some of the methods mentioned on the site. I'm wondering if anyone knows if replacement hoses can still be purchased or someone has a replacement they can sell me? I'd really like to keep the original as everything else on the machine is original. As a last resort I could purchase a piece of hose and use the ends from the original but it seems like they are pressed on and can't be removed anyways - is anyone aware if this is the case?

The second issue is that it doesn't appear the front completely closes as can be seen in the picture. Does anyone know if there is an adjustment that can be made to correct or are they typically like this?

Motor is nice and quiet and suction is pretty strong at the machine so I think if I can get these issues corrected it'll be perfect.

The hose can be bought on ebay , the door has screws at the top and bottom aof the machine play whit those once you open the door you will see the screws also the spring could be the issue i have a model zb86 that i need a motor and motor plate for it so those are great machine once they get the repairs done

Very nice Electrolux ZB88 you found there! Looks like it's former owner took good care of it.

First of all, as for a replacement hose, there is no aftermarket, generic or genuine replacement hoses being made presently for the Electrolux 80-series canisters. You will have to call a few Aerus dealers across Canada & ask around if they have any spare hoses they can sell. And be sure to specify you ONLY want a vinyl hose, if you get another cloth hose it will only be a matter of time before it leaks like your present hose. Your next option would be to take the hose to a local vac shop, have them gut the hose material from both ends, & use rubber cuffs & new vinyl hose material to make you a new hose.

As for the bag cover not closing completely, that gap you are experiencing is normal & nothing to worry about. Every 86, 88 or 89 I have ever owned has been like this. And you also say you have strong suction, so you should have no problems once you get yourself a new hose.

Stunning machine!

And the color is very attractive. I hope soon to be able to share how I resealed woven hoses without latex and a successful way to apply the sealing material so all inside surfaces are coated. Do not get rid of that hose!

I have at lease 8 hoses I would like to re-seal.

I tried a local Aerus dealer today to see if they had any replacement hoses and the only thing they had was a green woven used one and wanted $100 for it so I passed. He told me it wasn't worth spending money on such an old machine and tried to sell me a new one!

In any event it sounds like I'll have to do some digging to get another one so I'll just have to keep checking around. I tried removing the handle on the old one so I could at least cut a bad part out at the end. I got the elbow off but the sleeve seems pressed permanently into the hose so it appears that isn't going to work.

I'll let you know if I come up with a solution!
