I am not so sure where to place this topic or if this topic had ever been previously discussed on the VCCC but, I would like to know the history of these carpet cleaners (by Rug Doctor, Rug Rover and other companies), the way they were back in the 1970s and 1980s and early 1990s.

If anyone of you here has an old Rug Rover or equivalent rental carpet cleaning machine for show here, please contribute.

Thank you,

Ben Edge

Hi Ben , I had a capet cleaning business for many years alongside my vacuum business. I sold it to my Dad a few years ago.

we ended up using a truck mount but I started off with a few used rug docters. Very robust , made from Fibre glass and easy to use. I will find some pics and post them when I can . I was always interested in the history of carpet cleaners and would love to know when the first wet method machines were built. Their is very little information on the machines and virtually no pics of eary samples , But I know that some one has one in a shed or basement out there some were.

I would be very interested to see these

Wondering if all the rental companies would sell them or if they would destroy them- cause like the previous poster mentioned- you could start your own carpet cleaning business using their machines. I'm not sure how the rental process works though.

from seeing them on ebay I reckon they sell them, they are not worried about guys starting thier own business, its two different markets. people who rent one want to do it them selves and will seldomly get a company in to do it ,

As  matter of interest I bought one of my 3 machines from rug docter themselves
