Canister vacuums are they actually good at deep-cleaning carpets

Not true. Take ProTeam for example, none of their uprights can clean better than the ProVac CN canister. I dare you to prove me wrong.

I mean, that is quite the generalization. There are uprights that perform poorly on carpet and canisters that perform excellently on carpet. Like with anything, you just have to buy the right ones. Heck, even the $200 Kenmore canister from Walmart cleans carpet as well as any upright.

Generally, it is a matter of using what you like. If you are a Kirby fan fine! If you are a central vac/canister fan, then that's fine too!

Personally, I follow VacLab's recommendations since he can back his findings up with well documented results.

It's like politics right vs. left. This subject will always be argued! Use/do what works best for you!

It's also important to remember we live in dirt, to some extent. Dirt in the home is perpetual and impossible to eliminate completely. This is why home demonstrations are such a great sales tool. We all love to vacuum so use what you like. Don't get caught up in which machine type is "best". The dirt isn't going anywhere and neither are collectors who like to vacuum. Enjoy!

A while back.. I remember watching a youtube video...I'm trying to remember but I think it was some Vacuum Shop in St. Louis...The guy seemed knowledgeable in the video...and it had a lot of views. I remember him saying that basically any vacuum cleaner (canister or upright) that has a hose does not work (LOL)

Oh crap...I was able to find the video I remember watching with one search...I know it's the video...but for some reason I'm remembering it slightly wrong. He didn't say vacuums with hoses don't work...he just was saying direct air machines clean much better...

my carpets must be FILTHY (LOL)... I've never used a direct air machine on them.

I agree with some of the others above. No vacuum can get EVERYTHING out of the carpets or anything else. And also use whatever works best for you! No one should tell me to buy/use an upright or a canister when I already like central vacs the best. Even though that Royal Everlast 8300 upright from the video I think is an excellent vacuum (Probably the best upright that I've ever used on carpets), I still would rather take a central vac over it. But that's just me.

I would take the Royal Everlast 8300 over any of the centrals.I have several freestanding centrals-the Kirby and the Royals are still better for me on the WW carpet than the centrals.The 8300 was a trade in at the vac shop I go to they didn't say what the Royal was traded in for-that Royal is a BEAST!!!10A motor.Could this have been the last model Royal built?

Royal was sold off to TTI, who discontinued the brand. However, I heard that even before the merger, Royal changed their design to use a louder motor that doesn't require oiling. Personally, if you are in the market for a Royal, I would recommend getting a machine from the 1990s that has an oiling port on the side, provided that you are fine with oiling the motor.
