Canister Deep Cleaner

I came across this youtube video of someone pushing this for car detailing. There are tons of videos of people using it for car detailing, but it can be used for carpet cleaning too. It comes with a longer hose as well.

Here's the thing: This is just MY opinion: I feel like canister deep cleaners are better at extracting water (not necessarily better, otherwise) simply because you can push the head into the carpet. This is my biggest complaint with upright deep cleaners...ESPECIALLY on low pile carpet. I would much rather use this to clean my carpets than an upright. Canister deep cleaners are almost impossible to find. I know there is Henry Wash..

Yeah for certain types of carpets and areas wand machines are more convenient. If you'd be cleaning carpet something with a higher PSI pump would be better choice I think I've read somewhere that wand machines should have between like 200-500 psi of course that machine is geared towards upholstery cleaning

canister deep cleaners

A while back Bissell made a canister cleaner called the Big Green, but yes, canister cleaners are hard to find these days. You could get the parts and turn a wet dry vac in to a deep cleaner. Get a carpet cleaning wand that has a spray jet and a water hose that you can attach to a faucet, then get whatever head attachment you want to use. I use this set up to clean my hard floors and it works well.

car detailing

It seems the canister extractors are mainly used for car detailing now rather than residental carpet cleaning, here's a video comparing two extractors, I really like the motor sound on the more expensive one, I'm not sure if these could be adapted to clean larger areas.

Household canister style carpet/upholstery cleaners seemed to fall out of popularity in the US after upright machines became popular in the 90s onward.

Outside of the United States they seem more common. Although I think Vax has

Bissell's did have one last canister carpet cleaning machine and wet/dry vacuum called the Big Green Complete up to a couple years ago. But it's since been discontinued. I think they also sold one of the older Big Green style machines under the Rubbermaid commercial brand, but that's been 10 years ago already.

found one canister extractor

This is the only canister extractor I found that actually includes a wand, not sure how good it is but it's designed for commercial use.

Being able to push the wand into the carpet is a false sense of cleaning though.

Remember, the suction will suck the carpet up into the attachment. You don't need to push into it. The attachment also needs to breath, it needs air. If you block off air passage the attachment will lose effectiveness.

The 80s and 90s saw more canister type steam cleaners. Things such as the Kenmore Cleanmore and Bissels cheap versions. But without rotating brushes they are weak at best.

If one would pair something like

a Hoover Spinscrub upholstery tool
with

the Cleanmore

or a wet dry vacuum and something like a little green Machine to dispense fluid

You'd have a good pair.

I have that same Kenmore Cleanmore as in reply 6 and it does have the motorized attachments also.

I know they made a floor attachment that was very loud. I bought one around 1995 if remembering correctly, and quickly returned it. I don't know if there was something wrong with it...?

Or do you mean a motorized upholstery attachment?

There's that Spraymate attachment (it uses a gear reduction motor so they are very loud), and also a regular belt driven power nozzle for dry pickup with a headlight.

No motorized upholstery tool though for it.

I bought that Cleanmore new from Sears as well. I think it was mid 90s because I used it initially for cleaning rental properties but it just didn't have the power. I ended up returning it and hiring cleaners to clean carpets when tenants move. The pros have the chemicals and the suction power to deal with messes is what I found.

OK so.......the spot cleaners are essentially miniature canister cleaners for small areas. When I have to clean up occasional stains or cat puke...I have never used the solution tank...I just put a little carpet cleaner in a cup of hot water and pour over/ extract, rinse, rinse, extract. I don't think pushing more weight down is a false sense simply because the spot I cleaned and saturated HEAVILY dries much much faster than if I had used an upright (on my berber)

My rainbow Aquamate (I used it recently) I notice when the water tank is FULL it extracts more water because of the weight of the water. As the tank empties, the aquamate gets lighter and seems to extract LESS because of less weight. I have this odd shaped 10lb hand weight that I just placed on top of the aquamate and surprisingly it stayed there without fall off because of its shape...I think I'm extracting 30% more water with the weight than without it.

more canister cleaners

This company seems to make a lot of canister extractors, but they're more for commercial use. Of course, you could buy a commercial extractor and use it to clean your home but it may not be worth the price.
I would love to know what motor they are using in some of these. It's a 3 stage motor offering 100 CFM and 130 water lift, that's impressive, I wonder if it's a motor made by Ametek or Domel or something they make themselves. They also have some extractors that use two motors and provide 250 cfm and 182 water lift, I'd love to see one of those. It appears that there aren't anymore canister extractors in the residental price range, if you want one, you will have to buy a commercial extractor or purchase a wand with a spray jet and turn a wet dry vac in to an extractor.

actually, one residental canister extractor remains

I can't believe I forgot about this one. There is a residental extractor that is still made, the Numatic George. You can use it as a wet dry vac or as an extractor, not sure how well it cleans since I've never used it, but it's still available.
