I purchased my Guardsman new. I didnt care for the original bag, so i changed it. Listen and you will hear the Hoover Purists SCREAM...lol.

Its not impossible to polish these up. A little Mothers Polish and elbow grease works wonders.

Really i have heard so much about this mother's! Is it really THAT good???

Brett---Lucky man to have bought it new! Does it still work like new?? Do you use it??
This may sound weird but i have an allergy to dust! What vacuum cleaner collector can have an allergy to dust??
That is why i like the original bag because it has a type "A" in it! Shake outs in my house are not used withen 100 miles! HAHA

my 2 Guardsmans

an early U4313, and the first Guardsman with cloth original bag and rear tool conversion, vintage 1976. I think the model # is U7033.
I paid a whole $10 for the U4313 at a thrift store

Agnes...

Very nice display. I love the color palate. I'm going to expose my ignorance here... What are the two vacuums displayed in the upper right corner of your wall? (It appears that one has a blue ribbon attached to it.) Are they Concept Ones?

Mike dear

Yes those are Concept Ones, a U3101 and a U3305. What looks like blue ribbons is some spinny thing(what they call it escapes me) with planets on it.

hey jeff can i get some more pics of your guardsman with the red bag? Please? Can you take a pic like you did with the singer golden power master???

Guardsman

Model U4313, an early one from maybe 1981. This is the only one I have ever seen that had the "Hoover Commercial" on the bag, all the others just had "Heavy Duty"
I found this at the local thrift store back in 2003, I paid a whole $15 for it!

Jeff, you the man ...

Hey Jeff,

Love the Guardsman series.
I didn't realize there was a model in that series with rear conversion. With the cloth bag the air flow had to be much better. Reminds me of when I converted my college 69 to a cloth bag. The airflow was amazing. It really helped the tool suction.
My older sistetr has a Guardsman and loves the machine. It had the shakeout bag which they converted to the top fill. Great traditional convertible design and performance.

last of a classic

I bought my sister a Guardsman for a wedding present in 1986, a U4313. This model was discontinued at the end of '86 and replaced with the full hood model(still on a metal chassis too)
I paid $159.99 for my sisters, and she let it go in the divorce a few years later...GRRRR!
