Hope UPS handles it with care though I guess its pretty durable.

I want to line up a belt as I'm not sure if a local vac store will carry it if its a obsolete part.

Do the modern G knurled belts fit or work?
Would the belts for the Legend or Heritage be good?

Whats best?

Can't wait to see that logo glow!!!!

Don't have the mothers yet but thats not so important I'd really like to shine it up.

Then its look at brush roll?
Maybe if I am lucky it will be fine but what should I look for to make it a even better carpet groomer?
Have heard of auger or the brush roll for the shorter heritage head?

Then maybe another emptor from a more modern machine?
What models would be candidates & possible ones that will convert & take the best bags?

The belt is not obsolete and a newer model one should fit ok.

To see the logo light up, the light bulb will need to work and might need replacement. Just something else you should consider.

For brush rolls, I'll take a look around. I don't think the 4 row version is avaliable for this model, but I could be wrong.

For upgraded emptors, I would consider one of the Heritage or Legend series units. The Tradition emptor is metal but I have heard the Tradition model had a smaller fill tube that reduced performance compared to later models, although a larger fill tube might be usable. All pre-Tradition models used shake out bags.
 
The newer belt are ribbed inside so thats ok? I know they are better but may put additional wear on the motor. I got belts for the royal lots of them the old style smooth inside then I learned some people fit the newer knurled belts which hold better & last longer but there might be a possibility of motor wear?

Well at least I know I can get a belt that will work for a while til I get the best one....now bulb...

Think the Heritage 2 on has the new mini emptor & was supposed to be better than the tradition & I think the Heritage onesomething about it clogging more because of restriction.

All Kirbys use the same belt

According to the Kirby mail in order list. "All models use the same belt."
I don't think the newer belt puts anymore strain on the motor. This belt isn't tighter when new, it just stays that way longer, and is made of a material that doesn't wear as fast.

In the olden days my Omega would burn through a belt about once a month. With the new belt I can get six to nine months out of them. A little trick, if the belt starts to slip and you don't have new one on hand. Take the belt off and invert it on itself (In other words flip it over) Replace it on the machine and you are good to go for a good while more.
 
Belts

I have yet to burn a belt on any of my Kirbys, I change them usually ever 6 months just for my own piece of mind even though I could probably stand to go a little longer. I remember my mother use to always burn up belts on her Heritage when she had it, but she would also set the nozzle too close to the floor. I like the newer ribbed belts, it does make a difference to me. What I was told at one time was that if your old belt is stretched to the point that a new-unused belt can fit inside it, then it's time to change. Hope that helps a little!

Burn through may have been the wrong choice of words. I do adjust my Kirbys to the right height, however, if you have a thicker carpet even correctly adjusted nozzles will strain the belt.

I credit it alot on the Omega to the larger brush roll the belt has to pull to begin with. I didn't have the problem with my Tradition, and never a problem with the UG.

Since using the new belts which are also used on all the power take off attachments, Miricle Head, Rug Renovator, and Handi-Butler. The newer belts are just built better.

When you will see burning is when you use an off brand belt. It may work for you for a bit, but it will not last like a genuine Kirby belt.

Beware of "Made to Fit" when you buy. The name Kirby will be stamped on a genuine part.

Wow, that's great but I guess the head design to motor impeller whatever its called has not been changed on the new models just the bells & whistles...

NOT recommended by Royal for sleeve bearing beater bars

Royal gave this warning w knurled belts...

So would the kirby brush roll be a sleeve bearing design?
How can you tell the difference between the brush roll ends?

Some of the older Kirby brush rolls were brass sleeve. The G series, as least the one in my UG is roller bearings. I am not sure what type of bearing Royal uses.
 
BTW--The title of this thread. You are not crazy. The D-50 and D-80's were some of the sweetest small heads ever made.

Though I love the disposable paper bags, the Sanitronics were great as they were the first ones to use the sani-pocket to let you scrape out the bag without touching dirt.

Kirby held on to this for many years after the other makers gave up shake out bags. A local distributor told me that Kirby had to find a disposable system that would work with their high air-flow. The Tradition was the first disposable bag machine.

This was also true of power drive. Kirby had to find a system that would be dependable and last. I think Kirby's Tech-drive is one of the best I have ever pushed.
