Vacuum Cleaner

I don't know how they can claim it's a vacuum cleaner, it's just really a glorified sweeper.

I wonder if there are some statistics that show what the best selling vacuum's have been in the last 50 year's or so. I know the Vax 121 was from around 198* - 1991ish, was it replaced by the DC01 as best-seller?
 
It does have suction, although not much, so it can be classed as a vacuum cleaner of sorts.

When I had one I was impressed, but I would not want it as my main vacuum cleaner as I wasn't convinced it cleaned deep down. It was great for a quick clean up on carpets and hard floors but no good for anything above the floor.

Its not a machine I'd want however, its far too expensive for what it is.
 
I had one of these and was never entirely convinced it was clean thoroughly. I would grab the heavy carpet and stick it to the cleaner head like my sebo felix. It replies on an extremely stiff brush roll, like you could clean brass with it. A friend of mine has one but has retired it to quick clean ups as it has started to fray his woollen carpets, something his sebo x1 never did in 15 years.

The concept is their and I can see the attractiveness in them, but I'll stick with sebo thanks ahaha.

Britain's Best selling vacuum? Doesn't Hoover use that advertising marketing for their old Purepower upright?

Whilst I don't own the Air Ram, I have the cordless SW02 sweeper - my pals daughter has the Air Ram - IMHO it isn't a vacuum cleaner, but as Jacob quite rightfully says, the Air Ram is a glorified sweeper.

It isn't so much the design that makes this judgement - but for the fact that it is cordless and being an upright, doesn't appear to have any tools let alone a hose on board.

On the basis that the Gtech Air Ram is hardly cheap, the equivalent model (corded) that I'd probably buy is an Oreck.
 
I tried the Gtech Air ram in Comet just before they closed. In the store, they had some Dyson flooring, which was a green plush carpet, hard floor and I think there was marble if I remember correctly. I used the Gtech and It was not impressive. If the collection tray is full, and you make the machine lie on it's back to check the brushbar (which is like a Dyson DC01 brushbar mostly), or something similar, Then when you pisk it back up, all the dirt falls out! Deffo not paying more than £30 for one. I think it is just too overpriced, I would rather have a Dyson DC50 over this and that is saying something!
 
Well of course, but I would much rather have the trusty Swivel sweeper, atleast that works properly and has a good battery life
 
Mmm I wish mine was trusty - I had the original rectangular black Swivel Sweeper - the battery died after a year - and the replacement one wasn't as long lasting. The Swivel Sweeper design is a great one though, but IMHO its a pity the battery life isn't that great.
 
I smell BS....

I don't know how anyone could class this as a vacuum cleaner - it is just a glorified sweeper. Anyone that uses one as their only "vacuum" must have filthy carpet..

LOL Seamus, I agree so much! The Gtech only has 4 AW.

Mr.Nar, I had the G2 Swivel Sweeper, It never had a problem with the battery really, I left mine on charge 24 hours a day. It was a good sweeper, I would like the new Max model, or the touchless. The G2 has a design flaw with the back saving elbox joint. This can snap as its made of plastic, but other than that, it is a very good machine and ideal for practically any home.
 
Lol, no what I meant was I never had a problem with just general use. We were rough with the swivel sweeper though and lasted approx 6 months. The sweeper never really gave us any problems tbh. back then when I typed that up, I didnt really give the thing a chance but it it actually a nice design.
 
Thing is, there is no actual definition to general use. I know what you mean but collectors don't tend to treat a lot of their vacuums with abuse. Cue general use from kerbside or freebie machines where you've had to clean up a lot of the previous owner's lack of maintenance.

That is the one issue that I have heard from friends, who have given me their vacuums to "find out why it is not sucking properly," and its usually because they haven't checked the hose for clogs or have failed to clean the filters on board. 8 times out of 10 its a bagless vacuum!
 
Who would honestly buy a G-Tech air ram? It's capabilities are limited, no onboard tools, nothing to clean stairs with or even get the cobwebs off the curtain rail (a situation faced for many).

The Air ram only really 'cleans' carpets (although it is really a glorified carpet sweeper, that is all). If you want something that does just that and no onboard tools just get a Hoover Turbopower Junior, or a U1050. That'll truly deep clean carpets.
 
The problem with that is that Hoover Juniors have been out of production for over 25 years, and the Turbopower Junior for over 15 years, so they are not exactly available in Argos and Currys any more, which the Air Ram is. Lots of old folk who cant cope with heavy vacuums buy the Air Ram for the same reasons they bought the Oreck XL - because its light, and the Air Ram has the benefit of being cordless as well.
