OK Hoover experts. I have started to go through the machines I got from that lovely lady in Aurora IL where I got the Hoover Floor Washers. This is a Hoover 5131 DI. The DI stands for "Double Insulated." I have a blue one and a tan one but I have never seen one in orange. This baby is absolutely brand new in the box! The box was open and it was stored in a damp basement, but a little Fantastik and she cleaned up beautifully. I plugged it in after taking the parts out of the plastic and fired it up and it purrs like a kitten. I agree with Charles Richard that these babies are not heavy enough to really polish the floor but it works great. Ok here is the question. I have never seen an orange Hoover. I know these things ran in packs but don't remember an orange convertible. Tom Anderson - any insights? (Yikes!! I need to wax the baseboard, don't I?)

Fred.. <br
Wow!!! Yes, there was the orange model 34 Convertible Special at the time that this was made. Both the polisher and the Convertible were made from 1963-65. I have never heard of the DI. I have my orange polisher packed in its box. Unfortunately it is not very nice like this one. This one shines. What a great find!!!

My parents have that one, have had it since new. Is the liquid dispensing "can" and bracket inside? Or, I wonder if perhaps you had to buy those items separately. I also have a pink one in this style, that one is in Minnesota with my ex. It has a sort of hanging vinyl closet organizer thing, where you can put all the brushes and accessories.

The dispensing can was sold as a separate item. What a great find. Completely new in the box and never opened. You guys are seeing the "unveiling!&quot <br

Wow Tom!

I don't remember that one but sure enough, here is Jeff's convertible production list and there it is! Thanks. I can always count on you to learn something new (or something I didn't know!)

Fred.. <br
I gave you production years which were slightly behind the years when they were available. Production began on the polisher and 34 Special in 1963 at some point but the machines made their debut in 1964. I wish that I had exact dates for you but I do not. I am really enjoying the debut of this polisher <br

OK

Now I will have to be on the hunt for the Model 34 Convertible Special to go with this one. Were there any other orange Hoovers at the same time?

...only if you count the 1100 and 1118 DAM but they are a different shade of orange. The polisher you posted pictures of was the bottom of the line machine and so was the 34. It should not be too hard to find a 34, but the bag is hard to find in good condition. <br
The kit was extra and has colors of other polishers in the lines on the can itself. The 7010 kit began production in 1961 and was really for two older polisher models. However, it works just fine for the 5131. <br

OK Tom

I have a 5130 in the box from Aurora. It needs a bit of cleaning which I will do tomorrow and post the pictures. I am really enjoying this!

wasn't there also an Orange Constellation?

seems to me it was two tone something - cream or tan maybe? - and orange, with light tan attachments <br
And what about Pixie and duster-sweeper (Regina sort of thing) ?

After looking at this list..

Hey guy <br
Just before Christmas there was a MINT what I can now see was a 564 on Ebay- think it closed at bout $140 odd...... <br
Wonder if it would have gone higher now lol? <br

5130 All Dolled Up

Here is one of the other polishers in the group, still in the box. The handle was missing so I took one off of another one I had. It has the regular brushes on, not the shampoo brushes. Notice how the skirt on the orange one rides lower. These, as Tom said were basically the bottom of the line. I do, however have the deluxe models as well. Better go line 'em up.

Cool polishers; even if they were BOL they were still quite stylish. I'm curious to see their deluxe counterparts as well. What year is the pink machine on the right from? <br
As for the great production chart...would it be possible to scan this and put it on the site? Very informative statistics just on that one page <br
If I remember correctly, wasn't the model 858 Constellation in orange?

The pink one is the one I have back in Minnesota. I bought it at an estate sale. It might be slightly older than the orange one, as my parents' does not have Hoover on the plug, and my pink one does.
