My family hates me for this but anyone else mop the floors with bleach? I just want to make sure the floor is actually clean anyone else do this?

It depends on the surface...
I don't because the surfaces in my house I would mop are vinyl and the bleach would likely cause damage. But many years ago, when I worked in a restaurant, we mopped the tile floors with a diluted bleach solution.

No, I personally find the smell too strong and bleach tends to leave a film when I use it. I mostly just use it to whiten or sanitize dishes, and cleaning the sink or toilet.

Whenever I mop, I am sure to first wash with hot water and a good cleaner like Pine-Sol. Afterwards I rinse with bleach water.

Vinyl and bleach-they don't like each other.Bleach causes the vinyl to break down and get brittle.Bleach really shouldn't be used on other plastics,either.

I'm not sure why you'd wanna go further than Pine-sol.....what are you afraid of?

I don't see the problem. Yeah pine sol and lysol disinfect, too. It's just preference I think. Well, assuming your floor material can stand up to bleach.
I always use bleach in the washer when washing
white clothes. I also use it in the toilets, etc. I don't use it on anything else. My bathroom floors, etc are ceramic tile. Also, if you ever use a STEAM MOP, they tell you to NEVER use bleach. That chlorine gas.........
We had a tenant who used bleach on everything. The surfaces were dull, but clean. Up to you, but, I don't thin it's really necessary.
When my late mother was undergoing chemotherapy, we were TOLD to clean everything with bleach. But, that was a different story.

Why Pine-Sol and Bleach?
You would be shocked by how much extra dirt comes up in the "bleach rinse". I was going to include this in the original message but decided not to, but I do it most of the time because ants supposedly do not like the scent of bleach and because of the dog tracking things in from outside. I use the lemon scented Pine-Sol which is not like the original scented version which is a disinfectant.

Bleach would be hard on the vinyl floor finishes and also hard on grout in the long term. Goes without saying what it would be on hardwood surfaces.

I actually like to use both regular pine Pinesol and a little bleach in very hot water to mop floors. No it will not release a cloud of toxic fumes, my Grandma has done it for years and years. Just add the products to the water, rather than before the water. Just a little bit of bleach is plenty, maybe a tablespoon. Gives a really clean smell and you could probably eat off the floor.

That amount of bleach is probably OK, but as you surmised, be careful when mixing household cleaners. In the past, people were mixing up some pretty toxic stuff they found out.....chemists were horrified.
