Jubilee Hoovers

....thinking about it, I'm sure I've seen/read that the UK 370,475 & 825 were known as jubilee hoovers for the silver jubilee celebrations of King George V in 1935, perhaps someone can confirm ?

Model 800

Thank-you Jack, its such a long time since seeing that article any-road-up the 800 is my favourite 'big' pre-war hoover, it has the lot !!.
I once tried out an 80's turbopower hose and all-purpose brush on a friends 800, obviously with the correct adaptor, the pull was remarkable, a good combo ?
If only we could buy a cleaner like that now.....something about flying pigs !!

hmm, I always thot the designation "Silver Jubilee" was in deference to Hoover's 25th anniversary. I believe that's what Stan Kann told me once upon a time.

25th Anniversary

Walter - my Model 800 is probably my favourite cleaner out of all the machines I own. It performs just as well as the later Seniors, if not better - it has a similar-powered motor, but a much larger fan and more direct air path). And of course, nothing comes close to matching that streamlined, gleaming Art Deco style!

Seamus - sorry, I don't have a copy of this ad myself, the picture was borrowed from 'Simply Switch On'.

Charles Richard - In the US, Models 425, 750 and 900 were the Jubilee cleaners. Hoover actually sent Stan a 'Silver Jubilee' bag for his 425 when he wrote and asked them!! The 800 ad above does say 'Jubilee', but the 800 was launched in '33, so I guess we could have been celebrating some different Jubilee over here...maybe even a royal one perhaps, I'm not sure! I wonder if the UK 800 ever had a Jubilee bag. I've never seen an 800 over here with an original bag, let alone a Jubilee one.

Without access to Hoover achives (assuming the information does still exist - seeing the cleaners they supplied from the 100th Anniversary programme, I don't hold out much hope), I can't be more specific because there just isn't any information available out here, other than what I've put together myself. Regrettably, we have no 'historical centre' equivalent.

Beautiful work Jack.

Jack,

You beat me to getting my old black stripe 375 restored, by miles! :D LOL.

Mine is a pre war model, as the serial number has no prefix letter. Pretty high number however, so perhaps not the oldest.

Yours looks outstanding. A work of art as always from the Vintage Hoover Emporium.

I hope to get my U4082 very soon aswell, a welcome addition to the Classic emporiums family!

Will call you soon mate. Happy hoovering.

Clark
