Hoover Grease Gun

I was told by my hoover service center in California that those are no longer available from hoover. So I also have been looking for one of those brass two piece fittings that go on a grease gun to grease agitator bearings and also bottom bearings in Hoover convertibles.. I have a lot of old hoovers that need serviced. So if anybody has an extra one they want to sell I also need one PLEASE!!!! I am kind of desperate here....I want to get all of the old girls up and running again... Dan

Adaptors

Please, someone, post some pictures, and preferably list the important dimensions... I may be able to make a few (I'm still looking for interesting projects for my nice shiny new lathe/miller... ;)

All best

I meant used. sorry

I know they don't make them any more but what I meant was where can I get a used one? There is a vacuum shop that I go to that has one and the guy said he bought it thirty/fourty years ago and said they don't make them any more. He told me he would look for one and also that I should post somthing on here.

You can take the roller bearing apart if you want to clean and grease them manually. There is a small wire snap ring on the older ones that you can take off and the bearing will come apart. It's hard to get off you have to work at it a little while. Then you can actually clean the bearing parts and ball bearings thoroughly and grease. Regards Bill,

I normally take the bearings fully apart, however, maybe someone could help me.

There are two types of later brushroll bearing. One where the wire circlip has a big gap between the ends, and one where there is hardly a gap at all.

I happen to have a pair of circlip removers that can fit in the bigger gap, but no the smaller one.

Is there a knack to removing the clip from the second type? Have tried a small flatblade screwdriver but stopped before I drew blood... Shame because nothing sounds better than a brushroll with a new belt and 2 spotless and freshly packed bearings, after rolling around in dryness before.

Be interested to see these Hoover Grease Gun attachments. Would they be very old or cover all the models (that could be greased, probably taking early 90's here)

Grease gun photos

Sorry for the delay, I finally got around to taking some pictures.

Here's my grease gun and the Hoover bearing nozzle... I ordered it when I was working for Hoover. I think it was about $15 or so, but they have now been long discontinued, unfortunately...

Different angle... Fully assembled like this is for greasing the motor bearings such as Convertible lower bearings or the Constellation upper motor bearing.

Where

Thanks everybody for helping me with this, now one more question, where do I get those adapters you showed in the pictures.

Thanks for pics

That looks like it could be manufactured without 'too' much trouble... I could do with:-

A) dimensions (Does anyone own one of these AND a micrometer/vernier caliper??)
B) a couple of 'end on' photographs of the two parts. Preferably after cleaning, so more detail can be seen.

I am assuming that on the 'motor' adaptor, the grease emerges from (two??) drillings at the side of the spigot (one visible (??) ) in the photograph Reply#13.
Where does the grease emerge from the 'agitator' adaptor.

Is the type and size of thread joining the two parts critical??

All best

P.S. if all else fails, it would be fairly easy to make two separate adaptors... :-)

Wow that's a great tool. I've wanted one of those so much in the past, staring at a dry bearing but with no other option but to dribble oil into it!

Getting this bad boy out every year must be a lovely chore! I hope some duplicates can be made, may have to invest in a grease can.

Talking of that, say these were to be re-milled and re-made, what would the connection be? Something common and new, or the old original? Just thinking of getting el cheapo grease gun and said tips...
