Basement find - Hoover vintage model

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

I absolutely love the Seniors, as a wee nippa in the mid 70's mum had a 6525 as did the neighbours both sides as well as by best mates mum and another friends mum as well. Sydney were alive and well with them.

By the mid 80's they started to appear at the side of the road in quarterly council clean up's at an alarming rate, many with accomanying unused or little used tool sets. The benefit of hindsight!

We had shag pile 100% wool carpet, i remember mum having to do 4 or 5 bag changes each time she cleaned the house when the carpet was first installed although they have a large 5br home. it certainly served her well over the several decades she had it, maintenance free apart from bag and belt changes.

The beast with the headlight use to scare the shit out of me when i was 3 or so!

Living in NZ now, the senior never made it over the ditch, the junior was the only upright on the market for a while so needless to say with fond memories of the senior.

If any fellow vacuumlanders have a 240v Senior in great order in any colour they that would consider selling (i do empasise great order as my last connie purchased from ebay in the UK cost $300 nzd in freight)then please drop me a line at [email protected] and we can negotiate a good price. Tool kit desirable but not essential as they come up on ebay frequently.

Cheers

Mike

@beko1987: here is the link
I don't know if you can make much of it, it's noisy, that's for sure :)
And it started to smell a bit funny as well, nothing burnt, just dusty and dry.

Oooh lovely, will have a listen when I get home from work (just gone 5pm here in the UK, half an hour to go!) The headlight works though!

It will smell very dusty if it's been sat for years with a full bag. You can take it off the machine, undo the clip at the bottom to seperate it from the bag fill tube assembly, vac it off gently with another vacuum then hand wash it, being careful of the lettering on the bag, then gently wringing it out then air drying somewhere warm. Use a bit of fabric softener and it should smell lovely!

Its a shame the sound is muffled on the video, but it doesn't sound bad, just dry!

New brushroll bearings and a belt would make it sound 70% better, new motor bearings should sort the other 30% out.

Happy to send you some if you wanted? Don't know what vac spares are like in France though, may be easy. Brushroll bearings and belt will be anyway, the bearings were used on pretty much everything until the Turbopower 2 in 1993 I think. Certainly ly turbopower 1/junior/senior ones will fit.

@beko1987 thanks for the info. I'm going to leave it as it is for now (no plans on using it straight away), but good to know you're able to help if I want to change the bearings/belt! Thanks again, Jan
