Bare Floor Brush Recommendation

I really like using my Eureka metal canister (1700 series). I've vastly improved its filtration by using a HEPA type motor filter. I take Filtrete bags made for Panasonic canisters and superglue the Style B bag collar onto it. That's a major improvement too!

However, it does have a few minor drawbacks. One is the bare floor brush. It's pretty puny for my needs. Today, I was cleaning house with it, and it too easily got clogged with debris. I have two dogs who shed a lot during this time of the year (one is a Golden Retriever). They also track a lot of stuff inside (leaves, twigs, etc.). I use it to vacuum dog food too. So it gets put through the paces, but I'm constantly having to clean it out in order to use it.

Ideally, it would have a large throat. Also, for my needs, I would love a floor brush that doesn't allow dog hair to dam up so easily.

Personally...

I lie the Compact TriStar floor brush, the short bristles get more airflow concentrated down where needed, and the cutout in the front allows grit and lint to be picked up without stopping up..

Get the generic version of the Miele Twister Parquet Floor Brush. The suction channel is a full diameter hole facing directly downward towards the floor surface. There are notches in the perimeter bristle strip that allow dirt to be sucked in from all sides. I'll see if I can find the extra large version on the internet....

Another option is to see if the bristles are replaceable. If so, switch out with those that have spaces which will allow the contaminants to easily flow through while still offering scratch protection.

If the size of the tool is the main issue you might visit a local vacuum cleaner store to see if they have any used floor tools that would suit your needs--which would be a more economical solution and more environmentally-friendly.

I like the look of the Miele design because it seems to create a more direct path into the wand. The Eureka tool has a long, narrow throat. The debris has to make a 90 degree turn before going up into the wand. Very prone to clogging!

I think Eureka Williams designed their classic bare floor brush in order to increase the airflow speed in the nozzle. By narrowing the cavity in the brush, you kind of get increased suction at the floor surface - kind of like the effect you get with a narrow crevice tool. Which may be necessary with older Eurekas that have weaker motors - 3hp or 4 amps. Miele's canisters of the past decade or two have much more powerful airflow and therefore the Twister floor brush can effectively work well with a nice wide suction channel with a downfacing neck-throat that picks up large debris.

The question is: will a Universal Twister Floor Brush work effectively with an older Eureka 1700 series canister...

Why not bring the Rika to your local vac shop and try out several attachments?
