Bags for Lewyt Electronic Upright

I have a Lewyt Electronic Upright Model 111. I have searched the Internet for replacement bags without any success. How do I get replacement bags for it? I am not a collector, but my wife inherited it from her parents and I want to put it to good use from time to time.

When you say Lewyt Electronic Upright, are you referring to their Big Wheel canister model that has the electric hose & power brush? If so, you can go to your local vac shop & ask for "Hoover SR" bags for the Hoover Duros canister. You should also be able to find these bags on online retailers & Walmart may also stock them too, as they sold that particular vacuum. They will fit your Lewyt perfectly. If you want HEPA Cloth bags, the "Hoover Type S" bags for the Hoover Futura/Hoover Windtunnel canisters will also work & fit fine as well.

However, if you are referring to one of the uprights, & it is a soft bag machine & the paper bag has a paper tube that attaches with a spring to a plastic tube at the bottom of the bag, you will want to buy "Eureka F&G" bags for your Lewyt Upright. However, make sure that you buy the "Filteraire" version if you buy Genuine Eureka bags, or "micro filtration" version if you buy generic bags....it's been my experience in the past that plain paper bags clog way too quickly & you have to throw out the bags with little dirt in them. If you want to use HEPA Cloth bags in your Lewyt Upright, then there is a conversion kit for Sanitaire & Eureka uprights that allow their machines to use the "ST" HEPA Cloth style bags, & unless there's something drastically different about your Lewyt Upright it should be compatible with your machine.

Another helpful hint...

At the time of this Lewyt's production, Lewyt did not label them as "vacuum bags." They called them "speed sacs." I don't have any speed sacs myself so I found with a little bit of bending, a Hoover Y bag (Hepa) will fit my 121 Lewyt. It filters FAR better than the original Speed Sak and it holds its airflow longer.

Thanks to everyone for their helpful suggestions. My Model 111 has two 7.5" diameter wheels plus a small wheel. I do not see any provision for an electric hose or power brush on my model. The bag is directly under the top lid. The instructions under the lid say to use only genuine Lewyt Speed-Saks (which I have no problem ignoring). There is a WARNING that reads, "Beware of imitation bags that will damage your motor. Ask for genuine LEWYT SPEED-SAKS. Order SPEED SAKS from your LEWYT Dealer or use enclosed postage-free envelope and mail $1.00 to LEWYT CORPORATION, 43-22 Queens Street, Long Island City 1, New York." There is a bag in the unit presently, so I can compare it to the bags suggested above. From the comment that paper bags clog too quickly, I think I may go with the HEPA Cloth bags.

The reason they called this an upright is because early power nozzle canisters were considered canister upright machines ( the power nozzle being the upright part)
cliffiegr, this unit would have had a power nozzle and electric hose but was not the traditional plug in set up. All the current goes through the metal parts of the wand. This was way ahead of it's time from 1957-1960 (your model 111 being 1958) and was a great idea but was not perfected and resulted in electrocution, law suites and bankruptcy. Thus we never find these power nozzles, I imagine most were thrown away. Should you happen to find it somewhere you can make a fortune off ebay even if you just sell the non working power nozzle by itself.
