Bad Combination: Small Wheels and Smooth Cords on Miele Canisters

Help Support VacuumLand:

Most abused Miele vacs I have seen have stinking hoses and handles - both can be dismantled and cleaned out which owners never do.

As for the Miele issue - and being the owner of an S8 which I adore - it is not the cord to blame. The cord gets stuck under my doors as does the cord on my older SEBO cylinders (not so much an issue with the current ones) as well as other brands. And yes I have experienced the same issue where the body of the vacuum gets stuck under the cords.

I believe it is the Miele castor wheels and not the wheels themselves, but the frame in which holds them - they dont drop down far enough. As the owner of a SEBO E1 Airbelt which has enough surface area to jump over the cord, the S8 is nearly flush to the floor as per its design. Miele may well update the castor design sooner if they sample what other rivals are doing.

miele motor and filter

Does anyone know if the c1, c2, and c3 all use the same motor? I've heard that the C1 uses a smaller motor than the C2 and C3, according to the specs, all Miele canisters, at least in the United States use a 1200 watt motor. Of course, that's just how much power it draws, you could have one motor that performs better than another. I like my C1 Olympus since I mostly have bare floors, but I don't use any of the Miele attachments, I use a 32 MM adapter and the floor attachments I use on other vacuums. One other question, the manual talks about replacing the bag, premotor filter and exhaust filter. Inside the bag compartment is a fourth filter, it's not behind the bag, but is more on top of the bag compartment, has anyone seen this filter on a Miele and if so, does it ever need to be replaced?

Yes, Miele

uses the same motor in all of it's vac's today. Only the warranty is different with the price points.
The cell-loc bag is the first filter medium, then the pre motor filter, then the hepa exhaust filter, then the charcoal super air clean filter if you decide to add them if they were not included with your model.

filters

I think a package of bags includes two of the three filters, wonder which ones they are. There's the bags, then behind the bag is a filter, right above that, laying flat in the compartment is the third filter, and then there is a fourth filter in the bag door itself. I always thought the filter that was in the bag door was the exhaust filter.

Im not sure what you are referring to. The Miele dust exhaust filter is on top of the motor which sits in a housing that can be seen when you lift the bin door to gain access to the bag. In the lid itself there might be a black foam insert that sits on top of that exhaust filter - one of them came with my Miele S8 - it is there for sealing the filter to stop noise as well as slightly insulating the sound of the filter. A motor protection filter exists behind the bag.

The black foam strip is there for owners who will use the Super Air Clean filters instead of HEPA or AAC FILTERS. The black strip usually has to be removed if adding these filters as the door might not close properly. To my knowledge that's all there is.

Yes Nar,

I meant to say, you use one or the other. The super air clean filter, or the hepa filter.
The charcoal activated one comes with pet models, yes?

foam cover

Yes, on the inside of the bag door, right where the exhaust vent is on the outside, there is something that looks like a filter, but it sounds like that's not a filter at all, just something to muffle the sound. I may remove that piece and see if it's any louder, since I don't have allergies, I will probably just use the filters that come with the bags, I really don't need the hepa filter.

Its a sound insulation pad, N0oxy. When fitted with either filter (I just checked) above the motor, no whistle is emitted when the machine powers down. When the foam pad is removed, a whistle can be heard from the filter on board. Evidently a last minute Miele design input.

Vacerator - the pet models are equipped with the AAC filter or HEPA dependent on Miele canister variant.

filter location

I think what was confusing me was, in many canister vacuums, in the bag compartment, you have the main bag and the premotor filter, the exhaust filter is located somewhere else, usually at the other end of the vacuum or on the bottom. Examples of this are the Sebo d series canisters, Electrolux Ultra one and Panasonic mc-cg902. With the Mieles, it sounds like the premotor filter and the exhaust filter are both in the bag compartment, not a bad design, but different than a lot of other canisters.
