My Dads older sister Aunt Mable was a real character...one of my other Aunts said she could break an iron pan!!! But as rough as she was with mechanical things, she kept THE CLEANEST!! house on earth!! or at least I thought so, anyhow, in the early 50s she bought a Rexair model C, which she used for a number of years, well, back in those days Tide and Cheer were advertised for washing dishes as well as clothes, so she kept a box in the cabinet next to the sink...so one day while vacuuming...which she did twice or sometimes three times a week, somehow or another the whole box of tide fell onto the kitchen floor.....Aunt Mable , being the clean freak that she was..sucked it all up in the Rexair, well it just so happens My Mom was there and saw it all....She said before Aunt Mable realized what she had done..the whole kitchen and dining room were filled with bubbles, both she and my Mom were laughing so hard they couldnt think to turn it off, my Mom said for years after when Lawrence Welk came on she would start laughing ,thinking about the sight of that Rexair blowing suds!, They are both gone but what good memories I have of both of them!

IT HURTS! IT HURTS!!

I'm laughing so hard I might have ruptured something!   I can barely see to type through the tears in my eyes.  That story proves that the best humor comes from real life.  It's just TOO FUNNY to be made up!

Wow what I heart warming story I can really see the two of the there in tha bubbles laughing what a great story.

Iam guessing that that little rexair didn't work after that:)

What a wonderful memory of two very special people in your life Hans!! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Hans, I woke up this morning still chuckling about that story and thinking what a gift it is to have such memories about special people in our lives when they are no longer with us.

I had a similar experience with a dishwasher.

Back in 1982, my Dad had just passed away unexpectedly, and I had moved in with a good friend. the house we lived in had a Maytag dishwasher, and I never used it. One day, I was cleaning house (with my trusty Kirby Classic III) and I decided to do the dishes, but didn't feel like standing at the sink. I spied the dishwasher and decided "why not? Isn't that what it's for?" Well, I had never used a dishwasher in my life before that, so I loaded it up and filled the soap dispenser with dish washing liquid (Liquid Joy, IIRC). I then started the machine and went upstairs to clean the bedrooms. Well, when I came back down, the entire kitchen floor was filled with suds, and they were still pouring out the vent in the door. Needless to say, the entire kitchen floor got a really good scrubbing that day, and I never again used that dishwasher.

Yeah...

She had it for many years after that, replacing it with a GE in the early 60s and a Tan model G lux in 68 which she had the rest of her life.
