Very nice I have said it before and I'll say it again; I am not a American electrolux fan but that XXX is just beautiful. Zach

and it runs so well! A tribute to engineering. It sounds the exact same as my grandmothers did! So soft and quiet! Yet powerful!

Really.....

Zach...a preference for just Canadian LUX's?? Well that's cool I guess....can't say I have anything against Canadian LUX's, or what they look like.;-)

OMG Ben....stellar find, $4 really??! That's the Mother Ship of LUX's; the one that made them a household name.;-) No way could I could resist taking it apart, if for no other reason to see how they made a legend.

Verrrrrrrrry nice find, and scarcer than the usually-found 1949-52 version.

Notice the flat-bottom runners and of the style attached to the machine's body instead of incorporated into the front and rear covers as with the older XXX's flat runners --- which, along with the "saloon door" exhaust cover, add up to a transitional specimen between the 1947 and 1948 versions.

Is there no end to the apparently countless variations on this beautiful vacuum cleaner?!

n.b., I'd almost dare to say that the original leatherette was replaced. Note how it "puckers" at the rear on each side, and then either you can see the edge of the leatherette slightly pulled out of the side-rail nameplates, or maybe that's just a reflection of the chrome. It's hard to tell. But the puckered leatherette, and the very bland-looking texture, suggests replacement. Factory-fresh leatherette on all models was always very carefully and painstakingly applied. It's hard to imagine a less-than-perfect job like this would have left the factory.

I have been trying to find something to take the yellowing out of the top of the canister. I've tried about everything. Any suggestions?

yellowing

I've used Lacquer Thinner on power cords, as well as the trim on my Kirby 510 to take the discoloration off the vinyl/plastic. I read this tip when people were complaining about green cords on their G3s and someone suggested lacquer thinner. Do at your own risk, try a small spot where you can't see first cause i'm not sure what the material would be made out of.

If you want to try something that is 100% not harmful but great at cleaning, try a magic eraser with water.

Removing the yellow color...

I use just the ordinary "Fantastic". It works pretty good at removing the color. Also, what a beautiful find :) Machine looks great!

If that's....

true leather up there....I would try traditional leather cleaners before considering chemicals. Leather can be redyed as well once you get any treatment off the surface.

I have a Model XXX, it's the most quite vacuum I've ever owned. I use it when I vacuum our carpeted staircase, it sits better on the stairs than the wheeled vacs.

Is the yellowing from nicotine do you think? If so, there's a special product you can get at hardware stores made specifically for cleaning nicotine stains off of wallpaper. I don't remember what it's called but I used it once on an otherwise beautiful hose for an Electrolux E-Automatic. I second the suggestion about not trying any kind of solvents or thinners because some of them can dissolve vinyl.
