Hi everyone,

I currently have AT&T DSL for my Internet service, and was approached by AT&T to upgrade to Uverse. I've been pretty happy with the DSL service, and am wondering if there is any advantage, besides cost, to upgrading. I would only be going with Internet since I have DirecTV and Vonage phone service and am happy with them. Does anyone here use Uverse? If so are you happy with it? If not, why? I would love to hear anyone's input on this.

Thanks,

Joe

It may benefit if you watch a lot of HD streaming or gaming or downloading large files.

Is there a MODEM charge?

Is there a DATA CAP?

What's your speed currently for DSL?

I just upgraded from 12 to 24 but the only reason I did that was because the price was CHEAPER for me to upgrade although they did try to charge me for a special modem for the gbond DSL but I was able to get out of that. My DSL bill went from 52.99/mo to 49.99/ mo for doubling my speed and that price is for life (so they say). I don't have U-Verse/ ATT though.

We are stuck with Media Com here...and they are simply awful. Price gouge, poor service, rude service...the list goes on and on.

When we were with Century Link on DSL the internet was much faster.

I would check with folks who use the service. Sometimes introductory rates give a person a sense of false security.

Well, I decided to take the plunge

The nice lady assured me on the phone, that my normal DSL would continue to work until my Uverse connection was up and running.and so far I've been hosed.  Received the equipment for a self install, and activation date was supposed to be yesterday.  Instructions specifically said to wait until after 8:00 PM.  At about 3:00, muy old DSL connection goes down, thus disconnecting me from work.  I wait until after 8, as instructed and hook up the new equipment.  Nothing.  Nada. Zip.  I double check the cabling and connections and everything is as it should be.  I call AT&T's friendly customer support, and after an hour and a half redoing all the things I already did, still nothing.  Now I have an appointment for tomorrow after 4 for a tech to come over and I may be charged for the visit.  To top it off, I get a customer satisfaction survey text to me, wanting to know how much I loved the service.    Really? I would think they would actually read the ticket and ask me AFTER the problem is resolved.

Why oh why didn't I just leave well enough alone?  :-(

Joe -

You don't have to TELL me about upgrading or changing your service "drama"..... If they try to charge you for a tech visit you should be able to get out of that since your service isn't working after following their directions.

It's ALWAYS something!

I'll tell my story because I'm bored:

Decided to upgrade to the 24, but it's not a self install since it's gbond the tech has to physically come in to bond the pairs and set up the modem. The tech that came to my house the first time was a lineman who HATED doing this type of work. I totally got the vibe that he was a little "iffy" of a tech. He was here for 5 hours!

After he left, I logged into my Comtrend modem and looked at the #'s and they weren't good. Something was wrong. I called tech and resched an appt (no charge). This time the tech was REALLY good. He found that the first tech actually cut a line and it was barely touching so it was intermittent in getting a signal on one of the pairs. He fixed that. I took it upon myself after he left to reset the modem to factory defaults and reset everything up (took five minutes or less) and everything has been working great since.....

Luckily I never lost internet but the entire process was a pain. But now that everything is working properly it was worth it.

I had it for 14 days. It worked a grand total of exactally 8 minutes during that time. They came out and replaced my phone lines, checked the wires in the house, and dx the connection, and told me that was as good as it was going to get.

I had it removed and have Cox, very happy with the decision.

U-Verse is finally working

after being down for 2 days.  They were supposed to change me over last Tuesday, and my old ADSL connection was dropped.  Tech was scheduled out yesterday between the hours of 4-8 PM.  I got a text from AT&T yesterday morning reminding me of the appointment.  I made sure I was home at 3:30 yesterday afternoon, and 8:00 comes and still no tech.  At about 5 after 8, my phone rings, and it is the tech asking me if I still wanted him to come out, since it was after 8.  I told him yes, and he said it would be another 20 minutes.  I got the feeling by the sound of his voice, that he was hoping I'd say no and reschedule.  Not a chance in @#$% of that happening.  He finally shows up, and after troubleshooting, it is determined that the problem is at the box down the block.  He goes there and about 10 minutes later, I have service back.  Turns out that the tech dispatched last Tuesday didn't wire the new connection correctly when he disconnected my old DSL.

After getting service, I register the new account, and everything springs to life.  I'm really pleased with the Internet connection.  With my old DSL, I had a 4 Mb/sec download and now its 12 Mb/sec, and cheaper too.  I honestly forgot how many devices I have at home that use my Internet access.  After reconfiguring them all for the new access point, everything is up and running smoothly.  I will really be putting it through it's paces this weekend though, since I will be working from home,

I'm not entirely happy with the WiFi access point built into the new gateway, because it only supports 802.11 b/g connections, and the router I have that I used on my old DSL connection supported 802.11 b/g/n.  I think I'll hook up the old router and test them both out.  If the old router performs better, then I'll disable WiFi in the new gateway and use the old one.  Any way, the issues have finally been resolved, and so far, I am pleased with the performance.

that's what I did

The comtrend VDSL modem is a modem/router built in......but I disabled Wi-fi in that and and using my Netgear WDNR4500- though NOT in bridge mode. I tried bridge mode and didn't like it. I'm sure some would argue double NAT is not good
