U-Verse is finally working
after being down for 2 days. They were supposed to change me over last Tuesday, and my old ADSL connection was dropped. Tech was scheduled out yesterday between the hours of 4-8 PM. I got a text from AT&T yesterday morning reminding me of the appointment. I made sure I was home at 3:30 yesterday afternoon, and 8:00 comes and still no tech. At about 5 after 8, my phone rings, and it is the tech asking me if I still wanted him to come out, since it was after 8. I told him yes, and he said it would be another 20 minutes. I got the feeling by the sound of his voice, that he was hoping I'd say no and reschedule. Not a chance in @#$% of that happening. He finally shows up, and after troubleshooting, it is determined that the problem is at the box down the block. He goes there and about 10 minutes later, I have service back. Turns out that the tech dispatched last Tuesday didn't wire the new connection correctly when he disconnected my old DSL.
After getting service, I register the new account, and everything springs to life. I'm really pleased with the Internet connection. With my old DSL, I had a 4 Mb/sec download and now its 12 Mb/sec, and cheaper too. I honestly forgot how many devices I have at home that use my Internet access. After reconfiguring them all for the new access point, everything is up and running smoothly. I will really be putting it through it's paces this weekend though, since I will be working from home,
I'm not entirely happy with the WiFi access point built into the new gateway, because it only supports 802.11 b/g connections, and the router I have that I used on my old DSL connection supported 802.11 b/g/n. I think I'll hook up the old router and test them both out. If the old router performs better, then I'll disable WiFi in the new gateway and use the old one. Any way, the issues have finally been resolved, and so far, I am pleased with the performance.
