The verdict is in! I just changed the first Arm & Hammer bag in my Hoover and not a speck of dust or odor on the inside. They seem to be doing their job well, and reasonably priced at Wally World. I might pick up some Lux C bags the next time I go. I vacuum almost daily as I have a lab-mix who constantly sheds so a good filter bag is very crucial. I also like the new style Airway bags I bought from Charlie, they seem to be doing their job as well. I use my 88-Mark II as a daily driver for my bare floors and above floor cleaning. Tom G. put a stronger high performance motor in it for me, and you could now suck the paint off the wall with it, and isn't that kind of suction we all appreciate?

A&H bags

Hi Rick! I just now tried the Arm & Hammer Hoover A bags. I bought a Hoover Decade 80 ( wonderful vacuum!!! ) for $6.00!!! I tried the A&H bags and vacuumed the whole house. We have a growing Great Dane here so there is lots to vacuum. Normally the vacuums , even the Dyson, smell like dog at the second use after a bag change. I am curious to see what the odor is, if any after tomorrows cleaning. Will let you know!

A & H Bags

Hey Marty! I hope you got the premium filtration type, they have two different grades, however they're both supposed to put the lid on odors. I wish they made them for my Kirby Legend II, I wonder why they don't. I'll still take a bagged cleaner over any bagless, personally I don't care about seeing the dirt, I can feel it in the bag when I change it!

I think i got the regular bags. There is no printing on the box that says Premium on it. I will have to go to WM and take a second look! I will also have to check and see if they make Hoover C bags.

Eureka F& G Bags

here is a pic of my bags from Walmart but it doesn't say regular or premium on them. I haven't trierd them yet as the bags in my Eurekas aren't full yet but as soon as one of them need a bag change I will try these out.

Premium Allergen Bags

Hi Marty, in the blue area right under the vac brand it will say Premium Allergen if they're the highest filtration bag. I haven't tried the regular ones, since I have Lexie I thought I should have the "mega filtration". I got some Hoover "A" bags for my top fill Hoovers, but haven't vacuumed with them yet. I use the "Z" bag in my Hoover Preferred, and they work great, especially for the $$.

well, im slightly miffed that Walmart DROPPED the US-made Hoover bags in favor of these chinese ones. walmart must have twisted Hoovers arm as far as it would go. with US Hoover losing the sales of types A and Y bags at Walmart, im very worried about the US Hoover bag manufacturing operation. lets face it, the masses buy bags at mass merchandisers, not vacuum shops. i wonder if this is just the excuse Whirlpool needs to cease US bag production, and in the process drop the bags for all the oldies? thank goodness i have enough C bags to last for MANY years.

Rick and Skip

I have the regular bags, Hoover A , and they work fine. I did vacuum the hall and I thought i could get a wiff of dog but it seamed to go away. My heart sank when i smelled the dog but will run the vacuum longer this weekend. The bags do seem to be made well though.

Wal Mart...

Although I *LOATHE* Wal Mart, I may have to go pick some of these bags up to see what y'all are talking about...

~Fred

PS~ Target now only carries Honeywell brand bags/filters/etc... Another major loss for Hoover.

I know, If the A&H bags were at Target i wouldn't care. The only reason to go to Wal Mart, is there a reason? oh yeah, is to get the A&H bags. They do have a bigger sewing notions dept too but thats it. I cant believe we are admitting to buying bojack bags! LOL!

A thought on non genuine bags.....

Hey Guys.

Over here both Hoover and Miele state that use of non genuine bags/filters WILL render the guarantee void!

Quite a good reason to use genuine at least on new cleaners me thinks!!

Seamus

P.S Fred- I have a similar dislike of Asda(owned by Wal Mart) and also Tesco, no doubt for similar reasons.

Seamus

Oh i'm only using the bojack on old vacuums. I use genuine Electrolux bags in the Luxes and the Dyson and WT2 are bagless. I use genuine Miele bags in the Flamenco II.

Marty

I must have just the regular bags because in the blue area they is no mention of premium so mine must be regular but as soon as one of the eurekas gets a full bag i will try these new ones out

Lowes and Best Buy

are now the only retailers at which I can find any genuine bags, and their selection tends to be minimal. They may one day be relegated to the specialty shops and the internet.

I also suspect that the move away from selling "OEM" bags will result in two unfortunate ends:
- Discontinuation of bags for vintage cleaners (Do you really think Hoover makes a profit on type H or J bags?)
- Reduction in the number of new bagged models introduced, since manufacturers will not be able to guarantee bag availability (or profit!)

Marty

Hey Marty I guess my A&H bags must be just regular but no where on the package does it say premium. I can't wait to try them but I want to fill up all of bags before I change any.

Paper vs. Microlined Bags

We looked at these bags over the weekend at our local Walmart and the majority of bags are paper. Not bad quality, but definitely average quality. The few bags that are marked "Premium" are the micro-lined bags which do a far better job of filtering dust out of the air.

We're a vac shop and vac specialist in NC and we only sell micro-lined bags or better because they do such a superior job of keeping dust and smells out of the air.

While it seems like a good idea to buy a bag with baking soda in it, this paper bag is also leaking that baking soda along with dust back into your room and into the inner compartments of your vintage and every day vacuum cleaners. Since we also service vacuum cleaners, we can tell you it's not a pretty sight.

Check out the bags at your local vacuum cleaner specialist. You may be surprised at the prices. Most of the vacuum bags in our shop are priced the same as Wal-Mart AND we have about 5 times the inventory. Plus we can always special order anything that we don't have in stock.

Best regards,
Pam

Today I installed the Arm & Hammer type F&G bags in the Eureka 630D as well as the Kirby ComVac 1300; they both seem to run better and have better airflow with these bags. The bags appear to be halfway decent; one thing that stood out was that the fill tube connector was a plastic/waxpaper material and not regular paper like the rest of the bag.

really austin? the paper tube on f&g bags can be a weak link, esp on the high-powered eurekas. i will grudgingly give arm&hammer/eureka/electrolux props for improving it.
