I just bought a Hoover U8188-900 Anniversary Convertible (Saavy) off of eBay. They said it was in perfect working condition, but upon plugging it in I discovered the brushroll motor doesn't work. I figured I would call the LAST remaining Hoover dealership on Long Island, in Levittown, but I got the message that the number had been disconnected. So now that TTI owns Hoover, are we supposed to bring them to any "Joe Blow" vacuum shop when something goes wrong? I'm sorry that place closed, they had a Hoover 300 ensemble complete with tools on display, as well as a Hoover model 28.
Are there NO Hoover factory service centers left?

No, They all were closed by TTI as of December 31, 2008. Go to Hoover.Com to find the nearest Service Center.

That's true. In our area the vac shops are not any too excited to help you because they now consider Hoover a "big box" low end vacuum. They are selling Riccars,Miele's and Dysons.You can't really blame them if you bought the machine at Walmart,Target and then bring it in for them to fix. I had a problem with one of my new Anniversary Hoovers and the guy flat out told I might as well throw it away and buy somehting else. It was a new machine! Also got no help from Hoover. They just gave me another local repair shop. I called Fred from our group and he helped me resolve the issue.

Thanks for the info. I gotta say that really stinks. Really makes me not want to buy anything "new" Hoover. Down with TTI! Reminds me of what happened to Remington shavers after the company got bought out by Ray-O-Vac. They promised us it would not affect the retail division, and everything would continue on as it did. About six months later, we found out that Remington was closing the entire retail division, and only sell to big box retailers. From that day on, I refer to the infamous battery company as Ray-O-FU*K.

shop. People would say "I'm not paying $189 or 159 for a
good Hoover or Eureka. "I'm going down the street to the
TV appliance store. they have them for 59.95. I would response with OK. When you need bags, belts and service
I'll be here to help you." Usually I would see them sooner
or later. Of course these days everything they want is "bag-
less" So they don't have to look for bags. Plus alot of these
bagless uprights are a real challenge to change the belt on !
then again, they all need new filters sooner or later, More sooner!!
The vacuum shops know you'll be back to buy a good vacuum.
My friend here in columbus sells 18/20 $699 simplicities in
a good month. this is not a mile from where I was and Kirby
Hoover high end territory !

I think we are saying the same thng. I know a lot of people blame Maytag for Hoover decline but they had been making some pretty cheap machines for years.
It's hard to think of a company as "high" end quality when they were selling "new" Constellations for $29.00 and Convertibles for $59.00 at the low end discount stores.
My younger relatives in their 20's would not have considered Hoover a high quality machine because all they ever knew about the company was cheap,throw away machines at discount stores.
Quite a contrast to my perception of them producing one of the most respected machines in the world. The same idea comes when I would still remember the days when Frigidare,Westinghouse,Maytag,Zenith and Magnavox were to me high end companies. As collectors we can sure appreciate those old Hoovers but one thing for sure you can't live in the past. Now Dyson's,Miele are the names people associate with high end quality vacs. Thank Goodness we have had collectors likeTom Gasko,Tom Anderson,Jeff Parker,Charlie Lestor and others to preserve the machines and wonderful designs. I have learned so much about the different machines from them all.

Rob - don't overlook Fred Stachnik; his name should certainly be among those you listed! Also, although often overlooked, there are a number of us in the UK - where Hoover has been a market-leading presence since 1919 - doing our bit; my friends Seamus, Simon, Mike, Alistair and Stephen all have comprehensive and noteworthy Hoover-centric collections, and share a wealth of historical knowledge. Their contributions are every bit as worthy of recognition as anyone else's!

Love the picture of the Hoover building. I was referring to the many club memebers (you guys too of course)who have done so much to preserve the history of these companies. I appreciate each one of you. Don't want to leave anyone out. We have people in the club that really have so much knowledge to share for almost any brand of machine. Thanks again Jack.
