anyone keep vacuums that you just don't use?

I was just wondering if any of you keep vacuums around that you don't use, but just to have them in your collection?

Here's my list of vacuums I keep just because they fill a niche in the collection even though I never use them (not even once a year)

Royal uprights... the 801 isn't powerful, the more modern commercial one is too loud and the cord has a short...

Rainbow SE and Filter Queen (the brown one, no clue what model).... both simply too cumbersome

Electrolux Diamond Jubilee (again too loud, and not powerful enough, much prefer the Renny if I'm in a Lux mood)

Eureka 630.... it's a vacuum that a guy who was like a father to me (never met real father, so he was the closest thing I had.... and he bought that vacuum because I wanted it!) got when I was 4 and it's kind a sentimental machine so I never even touch it except to wipe dust off and clean under it... plus the number 630 follows me around, so I gotta keep the vacuum.... it was my storage locker number when I moved into my apartment, it's my employee number at work.... it's always just followed me around for some reason...

Kenmore Iridium.... cumbersome and I got if from an EX... not to mention the power nozzle bogs down on the back stroke on my stiff flat carpet even though it's powerful and has a geared belt.

Hoover S/P Dialamatic and Convertible.... I just don't like them... if I want a self propelled, I go for the Windtunnel or Concept, I've never liked the heavy, ugly hard cased, bottom fill Dialamatics... ran over my toe with it the last time I tried to use it and that was 4 year ago.... The Convertible kicks dirt around on my hard flat carpet, and mine doesn't have a headlight or original bag, so I really prefer a Eureka when I want that style machine.

Kirby Heritage 2... I keep it because it's a vacuum from my childhood (not specific one (though the Eurek 630 is)... my baby sitter had one and the church I grew up in had one (though it was a regular Heritage)... I might use it once a year just because it's the only Kirby I have with a boars hair brush so it fluffs and polishes, but I really don't like it (the whimsical handle shape is cool)... when I'm in a Kirby mood, I prefer the DS 80 for its big bag or the G series machines just because they are self-propelled.

Hoover Connie... the old one.... the cord is brittle, and I don't like straight suction vacs...

That's a lot of vacuums to keep around not to use, especially since I live in a one bedroom apartment, but I do enjoy looking at them and having them as members of the collection... I just tend to prefer more modern machines for actual use.

What about you? Do you have a few vacuums that you never use, but still keep around? What are they and why? Thanks :0)

first of all: Im so sorry to hear you never had a dad-that must have been tough.
Second of all: I have a few vacuums i dont use:

Kirby G4- Used to be my daily driver vacuum, but it got replaced with a G5, and its just sitting in my room now.

Dirt Devil Ultra Vision- Just too darn loud! But its my only canister

Kirby D50-D80- CAnt use because they have bad bearings, (awaiting for their turn at the spa). But theyrre nice to look at and show off.

Dirt devil platinum handvac- i have an original DD handvac that i use, and im just not a fan of canisters.

Hoover DAM- Its nice to look at and its a great cleaner, but its too heavy to pack around the house.

Well, the religious people would say that's why I'm gay (not all of them though)... if I had a daddy to show me how to play baseball I wouldn't have been possessed by this evil demonic spirit of homosexuality, but I don't buy into it... but thanks for the comment... I can understand why the G5 took the place of the G4... Such a better looking machine! My Sentria largely took the place of my G5, so similar situation there.

I liked the Dirt Devil Platinum Hand vacs when the power nozzle was still electric, but once they slapped a cheap turbo nozzle on them and removed the brushroll motor, they became the epitome of junk. I have the classic red DD hand vac, and I don't have the bag adapter for it, so It's very much like a bagless... and I tear the bag every time I try to get the silly thing off!

Most of the time I will only use one vacuum until I run out of bags or it dies. It's mostly because I'm very picky of what to use. I hate looking at crumbs in a bagless and I'm too scared about breaking the fan in an older dirty-air vacuum for regular use. Plus I need a hose most of the time.

So my current vacuum is a Bissell Powerforce and sometimes a Kenmore Magic Blue. The rest don't do what I need it to (I don't own a Eureka 60 tool set) or its just a bother (you have no idea how much I hate Hoover C bags).

I do have a Heritage II that needs some work that I never use, even though I could. I also have a Halo UV-ST that is way to cheap to use regularly. I mostly keep that one for historical reasons.

The one vac that I have that has seen the least use since I have owned it is my Victor Europa 271, mainly cos of it's size and the lack of space, not to mention the belt is in dire need of replacement ($45 to have one shipped from the US!! No thanks!!), closely followed by the tristar, again cos of space constraints, my Kirbys don't see much use either as I mainly use my Sanitaire for floor cleaning, and the Tristar or Miele get the hose jobs (the Tristar for general cleaning, the Miele for really yukky stuff)....

My G3 isn't being use at all for the moment cos it has a bad condenser, needs lots of replacement parts, and has no power cable, so it can't be used...

Oh, and my Golden Trophy Tradition, that NEVER gets used cos it's too damned rare!!!

For a while I used the Tristar a bit more often cos my Sanitaire ran out of bags (speaking of which, I must change the tristar's current bag) and I kept forgetting to order more of them, and more recently, I have been using my 1334-esque Hoover Junior between full-on cleaning with the 'taire, just to keep the living room floor looking clean...

Well, I've got quite a few vacs around here and nearly all of them see little if any use except the one Miele that my wife uses. My profile says the nominal number of vacs I have, but it's not accurate because I have quite a few more than are listed there. I never know if I'm gonna keep one when I get it. Some I like better than others. I have a few functional faves that get used to do my sovereign areas in the house. For example, the so-called Rec (Wreck) room has turned into my own den of iniquity for storage, work space, cat litter boxes, firewood staging area, package wrapping, and so on area which my wife hasn't vacuumed in 20 years. I take care of it, what care gets taken.

I've test driven all the vacs at one time or another. When I get one and it needs going over, I do the work and try it out to see how I like it. I've got a few recently-made, kinda cheap China-vacs that were given to me. They are real screamers and I wouldn't be seen with one at a dog fight but still I try them out so I can see how well or how badly they work. They're sitting down there, waiting for me to figure out what I'll do with them along with some others that I have more respect for.

The vacs that I use fairly regularly myself are an old Hamilton-Beach Model 26 that we inherited from my in-laws many years ago; a fairly new Electrolux Harmony that is handy; and a Kenmore Progressive upright, one of the newer blue ones made by Panasonic (but not a beltless) that I've really taken a liking to. I wore out a second-hand Hoover Windtunnel canister not long ago that displaced a Hoover Spirit that I still have but strangely has fallen out of favor.

The upright Kenmore Progressive I liked so much that when a similar one came along for $4, I bought that one too, cleaned it up and now I have two sitting alongside each other that kinda look alike. The second one has the "Dirt Sensor" lights on it, which are kinda fun to watch to see how well you are doing -- to me, that's a joke. How did we know where/when we needed to vacuum without this feature? We saw dirt. I've got another vac with this feature but I can't remember which one it is.

I've had a prejudice against Kenmore vacs for decades, based on an very bad experience I had with one. This was in 1974 when my wife and I got married and got a gift cert. for Sears and chose to use it to buy a vac which we badly needed. I told this story somewhere else on this board, but to make a long story short, that soured me on Kenmore until recently. When I discovered the Panasonic-made Progressives (both upright and canister) that really turned me around. I quite like this product, especially so as I get them for very little cost.
